There is some element of "it's funny to hate this" like what happened to Comic Sans. But on another level, lots of people don't appreciate or understand what pineapple brings to a savory dish. Cooking the pineapple chunks will mellow the sharp tang and sweetness of it, it becomes very delicious. There's a reason this pairing keeps showing up in different cultures you know. Tacos al pastor are a good example that also takes advantage of the tenderizing properties of pineapple (bromelain).
