This guy definitely does something great with his. He's basically consistently hilarious. =)
»shitting your slippers« got me. Good analogy. =)
From the very article you cite here: »The total cost of the work done in preparation for Y2K likely surpassed US$300 billion ($561 billion as of May 2025, adjusted for inflation)« So... no, it didn't.
Yeah, we are working hard on extinguishing ourselves.
First you have to actually get that there's work to be done by you (yes, you, not the others, many do not even reach that conclusion) and then learn *how* to work on that (because that's not exactly a tool set coming naturally to everyone). And then the actual work can start, doing all that unlearning and re-learning needed. Which will a lot of take time. And even then, it's never really over. You are still prone to falling into old patterns, be that emotional or behavioral.
Very well put. Especially this avoidance part. You are just so used to shut the fuck up and take it. The real problem usually happens when that reaches the »enough is enough« stage. And then shit may hit the fan. It takes some work to get to the part were you stop the issue earlier and even when it reaches a certain level, do not explode. Same goes for trust issues. If your whole youth everyone was fucking with you, pissing on you as a person, you won't shake the mistrust of humanity as a whole.
#9 In my experience it's more like summers turned into a shit show over time. When I was in school we got early school out for heat every now and then. I still remember the discussions, when that would be, 30 or 32 °C or something. 35°C was a rare occasion. Nowadays we got 30°C+ for weeks at a time and 35°C is basically happening a few days every summer now. By the standards of back then getting early school out would be a daily occurrence for weeks. No, summers really *were* better than today.
This is quite literally a well known loyalty check method. Talk obvious bullshit and demand confirmation. Anyone who opposes what their leader says is killed, removed or incarcerated. The real tragedy is not the singular individual, that basically has no choice but to confirm. It's that without that entire power mechanism behind it (read: all the fuck-face enablers surrounding the leader) it would just not happen. They are the big problem. Without them, the leader would be nothing.
I'd love to have a Technics in the morning...
#50 I'm *so* gonna piss in your shoes later, Sharon...
Or an older one, that you never got around playing. GoG is there for a reason. And if you are totally into such a thing, just set up an older (vintage) system and use it. Even a C64, 486 or old PS1 can bring you tons of fun. It's not like it's shit just because it has lower graphics resolution or something.
I wouldn't touch the app with a 10 foot pole. I love my ad blocker. I'm not gonna give it up, not for them anyway.
So are a lot of Americans, but you don't see them do it either. ;-P

Can confirm. I had our cats so far that they kept off my bed. I just consequently put them off it, whenever I saw them on it. And at some point they didn't go up there in the first place any more. (No, I do not like a bunch of cat hair on my bed, sorry. Allergies aren't fun like that.) For the rest of the family that was unachievable. Sure, if you roll a dice whether you want to enforce a rule or not, every time, that's what you get: Cats doing what their impulses tell them.
Who said they are going to any? Maybe, hear me out: It's not fun for them. So... no problem for anyone.
It's better than bad, it's good!
I need a third panel. »Me when I tell you that you lost the game.« :-P
Bit it might be talking. What did the five fingers say to the face? =)
And you think you cannot generate all that stuff and get it on literal films or Polaroids? And discs... I mean... what do you think a Bluray or DVD does contain? Yes, digital crap that essentially comes from a computer. Do you really think you could tell the difference if you could not do so right now already? Don't get me wrong, I love having my music or videos or games on physical media, mostly for »I own my stuff« reasons. But AI ain't any reason for it because it would not help that at all.
But I won't give you my motorcycle, for sure!
Gotta hand it to them, the heads-down training is really advanced there.
Not exactly surprising. Those kinds of »glasses« are usually made of plastic. (Gotta be cheap...) Most types of plastic block UV substantially. Unless you really have an actual hole in them (not just the filter-foil being scratched a bit, really going entirely through the material), I suppose that's to be expected.

It's the same as it ever was, once fascism starts taking a hold of things. 1/3 kills another 1/3 and the remaining 1/3 is just silently watching. Making 2/3 constitute a problem. :-/
I do so for a while now. And Imgur really got... a lot less. The post frequency went in the basement in comparison, not just for a general reduction in post frequency. Once the usual politics shenanigans are filtered out, the rest feels... too few. The rate of usersub dropped to a level that used to be frontpage.
When I started out here, I had some help by a friendly user concerning the usual politics posters. Blocking them altogether is a serious improvement to the overall vibes this place gives me. Those were maybe some 10. In the meantime my list grew to almost 200. You clean up every now and then, blocking the new regular politics posters that don't tag their shit, but a few weeks later you can get to it again.
We already got that. It's called a Cooperative. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cooperative Works just fine, if the members are not ass-hats. Just like democracy in other cases.
