Homo Neandertalensis isn't a step in human evolution, it's a separate branch that coexisted and interbred with humans. Same thing for Homo Florensis. This is at best misleading and at worst just wrong.
I was at the natural history museum in new york. They had an amazing exhibit on early man. There was a short, furry humanoid that they believe formed attachments like us because they found 2 sets of foot prints that, even though they clearly should have had 2 different gaits they were walking together. There was also an exhibit on possible neanderthal flutes. It kinda broke my heart to know so much love and art could've existed that we know nothing about
We're not done yet, we'll discover more and more as time passes. Some things, however, will inevitably be lost to time and so will most of the art we created.
