Yes I know Costco is still a for-profit enterprise that is beholden to shareholders and all that capitalist crap. However I also know that a trip to Costco with an EBT card can be a blessing to a family just trying to make it in the aforementioned shit show. Is Costco perfect? No, absolutely not. Do they tend to lean in a humanitarian direction? Yeah, generally.
Seconded. I worked at Costco corporate for a number of years. I can tell you that the focus on members and humans in general is very present at that level, separated from the warehouses. They tend to do the right thing even when it might not make the maximum profit. There's a reason you see old silver badges working in the warehouse smiling and being genuinely friendly. In today's capitalist shit show I'll pay more to the company I see doing the right thing.
