Well, if you find the littlest landshark likes your shoes too much use a potent hot sauce to rub on the soles. No, it won't hurt them, they will drink more water... Mostly it bugs their nose so much they don't want to be near it.

I dilute some peppermint or wintergreen oil in a water spray bottle to deter my cats from scratching at stuff, and everything smells nice as a bonus

Cats get sterner stuff from me. I glue bibles and jackfruit and more hot sauce.... If I ever think it's harsh stuff I've got material I can cut or make more powerful. Which should I do? Cut the heat or make it sweeter than you could handle? I'll see if you can push the right to stay alive..
