As other commenters have pointed out, this is too little, too late, and likely only done to save face. The idea that it's due to the PRC wanting housing to be affordable is just nonsense.
The buildings are mostly junk. Any that aren't belong to the rich and politically connected. They make money from the building companies, who make money selling junk properties to regular people. It isn't about 'shareholder value' being lost, it's about draining capital from citizens with no political power.
Not lost at all. It all trickled up to the ruling class. As for regular citizens, they're shit out of luck.
And there's no prosecutions for the builders because the provincial governments raise funds by selling leasehold licenses for the land. They're incentivised to keep selling land in order to keep making money, so they don't arrest anyone who's essentially stealing from citizens. Likewise with how some banks will just magically 'lose' all the money in their customers' accounts, and there isn't anything the people can do but protest and be beaten by cops.
It IS propaganda. Ridiculous, completely unfounded, easily disproved propaganda. Go watch any YT video on tofu dreg construction and the ridiculous scam that is China's housing market. TL;DR: people will buy apartments that aren't even built yet, then find out that the building company gives up and leaves the property unfinished in order to start a new one. And if they're 'lucky' enough to buy one that IS completed, it usually falls apart in a few years, becoming worthless.

On the plus side, he didn't keep driving it among a tree-lined road to the point where he failed and then set the woods on fire. So, kinda polluted waterway, but no wildfire.

They've mostly disappeared from my sight now since I wrote an extensive bitchy screed to YT in their 'Report this ad' feature, pointing out that the HeroWars owners might be pissed to learn they were paying YT to keep showing ads to people who have *repeatedly* downvoted / blocked / complained about them. Fuck knows why YT couldn't figure that shit out.
