Agreed, it doesn't seem like it would have been a problem. The only issue I can really think of is that those vehicles are HEAVY and the surface might not be designed to handle that axle load, compared to the usual distributed water weight.

The "explode" thing is kind of a red herring. They've opted for a hardware-rich testing regime, instead of doing everything in software.
