While I know we Americans are nutzoid, there are apparently multiple athiest "churches" over here. As I understand it, they want the community aspect, without the religion. I assume it's them having trouble throwing away the lifetime of religious indoctrination completely, as I'd assume you could call it something different. Maybe it's to make folks transitioning away from a church life feel more of a familiar setting.

His co-stars embraced it, he only turned towards it when his lack of acting ability became obvious and his career tanked. He's been openly self absorbed since his earliest days. All of his co-stars have been open about how he acted and treated them, and it's not flattering.
