I still remember the day I decided to just say "it was good" when my parents asked me how my day was, because that was easier than telling them that coming to them about bullying at school only made it worse. Over 20 years later, I'm still never planning on telling them about the sexual abuse that was happening at the same time. My parents don't know a damn thing about me.
