That's the American way.
Not suffocating in the street, no. More like: insurers pulling out of whole regions, grids buckling when everyone's AC runs flat out at once, food prices spiking from crop failures elsewhere, and heat deaths concentrated in whoever can't afford to stay inside all day. None of that needs everyone to die to reshape how people live. Is "nobody suffocates" really the bar though?
