why is GenX so callous?

Jul 26, 2026 3:19 PM

not the freshest material but i still thought it was pretty funny. liked the switch up at the end too lol

Don’t callous, we’ll call you. But probably not…

To be fair...

Anyone that knows who BigDad is and his running serie with Bugs' outfits well... cant blame Elmer for his reactions.

It's good material, sharp observations. Wish it had me laughing. Maybe you had to be there.

Dustin Nickerson, dude is hilarious

Tried watching Popeye. Theme: The solution to every problem is violence. Violence didn't work? Apply more violence.

4 days ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

IIRC, Pepe Le Pew also never tries to score with other skunks. Always a cat.

4 days ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

in basically every episode there is the premise that the cat got painted skunk stripes so he mistakes her for a skunk...he definitely wants to score with another skunk...just almost never encounters one...i think there are some episodes that let him encounter one in the end when the cat finally escapes, but its rare...

Looney Tunes was never big in Germany when i grew up ( born 75) but Tom & Jerry was.

That violence was hilarious to me and still is to this day.

Love me some Looney Toons, anything Tex Avery, and...
Happy Tree Friends, which cranks all the shit up to 13. https://media4.giphy.com/media/v1.Y2lkPWE1NzM3M2U1bG0wcXVhaWhlcGNhMnk5OTdkendzZms4cDhobHAxZ2N6ZG9pbWY5dCZlcD12MV9naWZzX3NlYXJjaCZjdD1n/UlF3WrzSJtopG/200w.webp

Happy Tree friends song is my ringtone fir like 10 years now. I love that show.

4 days ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

I love seeing people who haven't heard of Happy Tree Friends find out what it's about

4 days ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

I remember being about 8 and watching Bugs in a Valkyrie costume and my VERY confused immigrant mother comes in from the kitchen and asks "Are you listing to Wagner!?" Then she just watches the TV for about 10 minutes with this strange look on her face as a cartoon rabbit performs the Ring Cycle.

Does it stir you a little if you hear it today?

Looney Tunes was being created from 1930-1969. I'm a gen-xer myself and I don't claim Looney Tunes as ours. Sure I watched reruns of it growing up but it was not meant for us. It is about to be 100 years old.

4 days ago | Likes 18 Dislikes 0

Holy shit, I always assumed it was from the '70s since it was being repeated so much on tv; but the "What's Opera, doc?" was released to theaters in 1957!

I do claim Animaniacs as ours. Yes I was in college at the time making me technically outside the target age range, but let's face it, it was very funny to all ages.

To answer your question: Lead poisoning and beatings.

5 days ago | Likes 45 Dislikes 0

Don't forget emotional abandonment.

My mom stopped spanking me when she sprained her finger on my ass. Switched over to a paddle

5 days ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 0

My mum slapped me for the last time when I was fourteen. I was taller than her and I knew it was coming so I didn't flinch. She just said, well I guess that won't work anymore. Loved my mum dearly, RIP.

4 days ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

My mom beat me until I came to school with a bruise the size if a volleyball. Then CPS came to our door so my mom stopped hitting me and instead made me stand at attention for 2-4 hours per week while she screamed at me about how much better her life would have been without me. After that I started to miss the beatings.

4 days ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Jesus fuck. The emotional damage will continue until the beatings return.

4 days ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

My brother thought he was smart when he ran and broke the usual wooden spoon my mom would beat us with. She outsmarted him by randomly reaching into the drawer and pulled out a metal straining spoon (big and solid with lots of holes) and then proceeded to beat him.

Ah the joys of societal and religiously approved child abuse...

Dad. Extension cord. Welts. Back. Many.

4 days ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

ooof. metal covered in plastic is just brutal. But yeah, once dad came home, then it was a repeat. I don't know which was worse, when I would get it, or when I had to sit outside the room listening to my brothers and sister get it.

But just remember, god said it was a good thing! /s

Honestly, the lack of any form of disagreement/fighting in modern shows isn't that great a message. Shows taught me to stand up for myself.

4 days ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Shows also taught me that it was okay to leave situations that would get me hurt. Not everything can be talked out.

4 days ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Sometimes you just need a little mexican mouse to save the goddamn day.

4 days ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Yo.. keep Speedy Gonzales out of your mouth. He is not supposed to be some funny caricature. He is basically a Marvel level superhero who saves the day.

5 days ago | Likes 148 Dislikes 1

No, he’s supposed to be a funny caricature. Pretty much all their characters were.

The fact that he was wildly popular among that community and is the protagonist doesn’t change that he’s a caricature. Captain America is a caricature as well.

4 days ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

There is Slo-Poke Rodriguez, Speedy’s sleepy, laid back cousin. I love him.

4 days ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

I have a friend who has a tattoo of him. He's also a Rodriguez

Next you're going to tell me Apu is a wildly over educated, incredibly competent, volunteer fire fire fighter, loving husband and father, doctor of computer science, illegal immigrant turned citizen, singer, friends with Paul Macartney. And a million other things.

4 days ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 0

Kind of a shame that Hank Azaria feels too much guilt to continue to voice Apu, who has basically been written off of the Simpsons. He hasn't voiced Apu for the last 9 seasons......which means there are still 29 seasons with Apu as a top 15 character!

I feel like a well written episode featuring Apu leaving the Quik-E-Mart and becoming an adjunct professor of economics, or something, could revive the character who has been basically absent since 2017.

Only because he was berated by a swarm of chuds.

2 days ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

And from what I understand , Mexican people love him!

4 days ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

Yeah I heard some groups tried to get speedy removed. But Mexicans fought to bring him back.

He has a cousin, you know. His name is Slowpoke Rodriguez, the slowest mouse in Mexico.

In a past lifetime I worked at a warehouse with an awesome guy named Gonzales. I would tell him "you make Speedy Gonzales look like regular Gonzales" At first he didn't get it untill I showed a few clips of Speedy, and said he's like a hero of his village. Later when I said that it made his day.

4 days ago | Likes 48 Dislikes 1

Everybody liked that. You keep doing that. We need a lot more of that in this stupid world.

4 days ago | Likes 26 Dislikes 0

The guy was great, we eventually left that company, he went back to California for his family, talked about working on cars and maybe a business.

The oldest of who? I am an elder Gen X and I just turned 60. Did you mean youngest? Truthfully, I don’t get these generation thingies. Because of all the lead in the hose water I suppose.

5 days ago | Likes 18 Dislikes 5

Essentially, marketing departments came up with terms to describe target demographics and people took it as scientific divides between age ranges. They're basically age based astrology

5 days ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 3

OK. I like this. I’ve never heard it compared to astrology but I think you might have something here.

5 days ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Ehhhh, there's something to shared experiences and cultural touchstones within age ranges that plays out more in the real world than astrology does.

4 days ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

Talking about Millennials. We’re ages 30-45. @op posted it was Gen X when clearly it’s a millennial. Unfortunately people forget time passes and still think Millenials are in their teens and 20’s and Gen X is in their 30’s and 40’s.

5 days ago | Likes 26 Dislikes 0

I do love seeing posts that are like "stupid millennials do (whatever it is)" and I'm like what? Consider our retirement packages? Shop for insurance? Worry about out bum knee? I'm a millennial, I'm 43 goddamned years old. Yes please ridicule me, that's fine, just swap me with my 26 year old body and you can talk all the shit you want
