My trans niece's experiences have made me realize that I have to give people more of the benefit of the doubt. She had family on her dad's side from rural Michigan that they didn't tell about her transition due to expected hostility. They finally decided to tell the Uncle they thought would be worst. He (and the whole family) has supported her in so many ways since then, including offering her a place to stay in a trans friendlier state. Either they'll love you or they won't be a loss.

I had literally the exact same thing happen to me. Got an ablation for my Afib and just had my first colonoscopy (plus an endoscopy) two weeks ago as the heart has standard rhythm. Watch for low grade heart failure from the Afib. That’s where I am now. ✊🏼

I'm glad for all pets out there that you don't have any with this attitude. The wife changed. The cat didn't. From a three decade severely clinically depressed person with a multi-decade successful marriage, it's her job to figure this out. She deserves help and support, but this type of change would make me question her being alone with our child not get rid of the beloved family pet.

I mean that because our tax dollars should be spent better. I despised Dubya and voted for Obama, even when running against the last Republican with any decorum. I'm a poll worker/watcher for the Democrats. I drive people to the polls when not working them. Your third-party vote remains idiotic.
Fair enough. I WANT something viable other than Rs or Ds, so I'll work for that. However, the only viable vote is for the Democrat 99.8% of the time. I am a poll worker/watcher for the Democrats in every election. I've worked for/on dozens of campaigns in my adulthood (started at 13 stuffing envelopes for Reagan - a regret). I've shown up to every major protest for 20 years or so. I drove people to the polls prior to becoming an election worker. I try not to "sit at home".
I probably shouldn't have said "good" - perhaps "reasonable" was the right word as it was ostensibly to protect the value of the neighborhood assets.
They were originally "officially" a selling point for living in close proximity without having your investment deteriorate due to shitty neighbors. Like my above examples, racism was one major way in which they were inappropriately used. I didn't mean to gloss over the racism part, but was just trying to explain why the above example exists. High Cost of Living. We live just north of New York City in the place the (generally) high incomes of the city want to move when they have kids. Even as the market cools off slightly in the nation as a whole, things are still rising quickly here.
Like most stupid things, HOAs were originally a good idea. Your neighbor can't paint their home purple polka dots or fail to mow their lawn. It has become a power trip by the few people that WANT to have a say in whether one can put a velociraptor toy in their front yard or have a deck that's 6 inches longer than mandated. Wife and I are house hunting and researching the HOA has become as much of a chore as finding something under a million dollars that we can live with (HCOL area).
I believe, at the very least, that the Republican and Democratic parties will eventually each split (MAGA/Fiscal Conservatives and Corporate Dems/Progressives), but at the moment we just need control to roll most of this bullshit back and prosecute the RICO organization otherwise known as the GOP. If that means Gavin (I'm not sure a progressive or POC or woman can be elected at the moment), absolutely not my ideal but I'll pull that lever like a mfer.
More eligible voters didn't vote than voted for Trump. The only "morons" in this process are the "lefties" (not a pejorative - I am one) that abstain or vote for a third party "to stick it to the Democrats". I was a registered (and staunch) Republican, then registered as Not Affiliated when the party started going crazy (Tea Party era). I never registered Democrat, but have become "vote blue no matter who" because there is obviously no choice to a sane, patriotic American.
If your goal is truly to eventually move the goalposts, you're just as effective wiping your ass with the ballot and throwing it in the trash.
It works because the MAGAs are even dumber.
