That's definitely not part of the definition.

Although I think there's a fair point to make for collapsing that back again in the position "knowledge about the existence of a transcendent god is logically meaningless, so what people mean is they 'feel' that there's a god or not"

As others have mentioned, that atheism is by definition an active belief is just not true. gnosticism - agnostocism is the axis of knowledge, and it's orthogonal to theism - atheism. There are very few actual gnostic atheists I know of, that say "I know there is no god" instead of "I live my life as if there is no god, since there is no evidence for one".

And vaccines -- antibiotics are Wonders for being so widely effective, but vaccines are Wonders for protecting us from incredible harm for the cost of a day or two of very low fever. Often for life, and without side effects like the bacteria becoming immune!

I wasn't aware that in other, non-German places (in the States, I assume?) convection isn't just a standard setting on all but the most crappy ovens (mainly mini-ovens meant for students to be able to bake their sad frozen pizzas, and nothing more). That does explain the air-fryer thing becoming a thing at all a lot better

That's a wildly false dichotomy. Not all CEOs are trying to create a white power based regime in our country, and that difference matters. And most CEOs aren't even the owners, so the increase in their monetary and thus political power is more indirect than with the Apartheid-Stan of Tesla.

I'm sick and tired of all you shower-carpet-haters, walking onto a cold, slimey Persian rug is the best part of the shower!

A more correct comparison would be that birds are dinosaurs the same way hominids are great apes: a subgroup of the larger grouping. Nobody is saying the my chicken is a velociraptor...

Contrapoint: A Jew is not worth more than a Palestinian

Now google-fu won't get you very far because google removed most of the modifiers -- "absolutely don't include results with XY" is now a soft suggestions that's ignored more often than not.

I wonder how I would feel low iron compared to, say, fatigued or tired

My "known best" was clearly Guards! Guards! to begin with. Small Gods is pretty standalone and a better one, which is a high bar to clear.

It's in Going Postal, not one of the early works, so you'll have some way to go if you want to read them in chronological order (but jumping ahead is really no problem. Personally, I'd suggest Guards! Guards! and maybe one other book on the watch (The Fifth Elefant maybe for some deeper relations of Ankh-Morpork with the rest of the Discworld?). Or just dive right in to Going Postal, that would also work.

Yeah, including the whiny little shit in a list about writing great villains is pretty weird. At least for Danaerys, you could use the excuse that she would have been a great tragic villain if the books were ever finished...

He was obsessed by her, desired her, but I'd argue he never loved her.

Because rent-seeking isn't a part of capitalism as much as it is part of any human economic activity. Feudalism is (was, but soon will be again?) basically nothing but.

No, you, if you do work for the government in any capacity, or you can take up the government's time in any way, are called to here.

He'd fall pretty softly onto the pile of human-dog-sheet that just was hit by a plank, I don't see a problem here

Sparta may have been well regarded during that time due to democratic Athens' not historically unique problems with imperialism as a democracy, but calling it "democratic" when it was absolutely nothing at all of that sort is a banger. Sparta was a closed off, tiny oligarchy running a slaver state known for its particular brutality in the already brutal slaver landscape of classical Greece. Noble leisured playboys often loved it for that.

Probably my favorite quote of all the books. Perhaps except for Minty's soft beard.

Eh, no Edit, so now this: of course, that's a very different situation: a team from the suburbs moving to the closest city because their stadium just can't cope with professional level amounts of fans.
