I learned academically what some live through. My Dad is an MD with an MPH. I grew up understanding that public health measures save more lives than medicine alone, and when they work in concert, they change civilization.We have a few deniers in the extended family. So far, all the ones I know of are younger than me, and none of them have lost the communicable disease lottery.

While not a religion, atheism is considered a religious belief under US Constitutional law so that atheists receive all the same protections as everyone else.IOW- despite 7 state constitutions- you cannot legally be discriminated against for housing, employment, the ability to hold public office, etc. because of being an atheist.

Interesting: the right wing claims MAID is eugenics (and therefore a bad thing), but simultaneously advocate controlling or outright outlawing ethnic miscegenation as a good thing that preserves/improves racial purity (which is a form of eugenics).🤔

Some people have REMARKABLY effective blinders. I know a (former) Trump supporter who used to live in NYC in the 80s. We got into an argument about Trump’s history of criminality & bigotry; he’d missed all of it.To his credit, he didn’t react by ending our friendship, he looked into what I said, and it’s changed his mind. He openly criticizes DJT these days.He still mostly votes GOP, though. Baby steps. Baby steps.

Back in the mid 70s, our boy kitty would paw at our LPs when we were playing them, slowing them down or even stopping the turntable completely.
I would also consider a person with a firearm more dangerous than someone with a knife. But it’s still a lethal weapon.
On the bright side, it will be easier than ever to spot the gangrenous aspects of society.

Second, bullet resistant body armor is actually less effective against knives than firearms.Third, if there was a nearby officer equipped with a taser, it would be THAT officer’s job to use it. Handing it off to a SWAT officer is nonsensical.
Technically, a presidential pardon can only apply to federal crimes- essentially crimes against the United States & those under its jurisdiction.The Tates weren’t arrested for federal crimes, but for international warrants, so Trump can’t actually pardon them.He can, however order the US Marshals to ignore the warrant and free the Tates.
“Non-lethal” is a bit of a misnomer- it’s more accurate to say “less lethal”. Almost every weapon system/HTH training has the potential to kill, even if used properly.That said, SWAT-style units don’t regularly carry as many less lethal options that work in open areas as compared to patrol officers. Their job is to engage the most dangerous suspects, and are armed & trained accordingly. They’re more likely to carry tasers , beanbag rounds etc. when doing crowd control and the like.
