Maybe so. I have no idea what a fish sees or hears or smells. You are probably right that it could tell which way it needed to go. My point was only that, if it DIDN'T already know the water was that way, it would've been a huge risk, since there was only about a 90° arc that would've gotten it to the lake in 10-30 seconds before suffocating. I suppose it also depends on the kind of fish and tolerance for being out of water.
I did see it squirm out, I just can't be sure what it can see from that vantage. I am not familiar with the sensory perceptions and acuities of fish. If there was more clip showing the fish peeking out a few other angles before locating the correct one and going for it, it would be more apparent that it had correctly determined the right direction before making its move.
And like an 80% chance assuming the fish didn't know which way the lake was before swimming out of its pool.
Had a pair of rottweilers I didn't see back me up against a fence once while delivering pizza. I wholeheartedly agree.
