My French Canadien grandfather used to use hand lines, primarily for catfish and burbot. The line was wound around hand made rectangular wooden spools that you could use like a rudimentary reel if needed. This is not a photo of one of his, but they looked sorta like this.
Saw a beaver up close on the bike path yesterday. They get huge.
It has two small scoops that deploy from the bottom. The plane skims the water surface at around 160 km/h and basically rams the water into its tanks. There are no pumps involved, just forward motion.

Ribbon eels are protandrous h*rmaphrodites. This is an adult male, you can tell because it's blue. They are all born male and are black/yellow at birth, once they reach sexual maturity they turn blue/yellow, then when they reach their full size they turn solid yellow and become female. H*rmaphrodites are common in fish. Clownfish are another protandrous h*rmaphrodite. Only the dominant clown is female. By the time Marlin found Nemo they would both be female and would have had disagreements.

Since you asked about pets: here's a drinking fountain I installed adjacent to a splash pad last year that features a dog bowl. It uses the same water feed from the main as the splash pad. Every municipality may do things differently though.

2/2 Splash pads that use filtration are far more expensive to install and maintain. The filtration usually involves a holding/recirculation tank, and a combination of mechanical/chemical filtration and often UV sterilization. A well maintained system should be free of pathogens, but not impurities, and if your splash pads use Chemical Controllers they may also have high levels of chlorine which are unsafe to ingest. Your city website or directory may be able to tell you which you have.
My city has no shortage of water resources so I've never built a splash pad that uses filtration, water is sourced from the same lines that service homes and drinking fountains, then empties into the city sewer system. Despite this configuration these splash pads still use dramatically less water over a season than the average outdoor public wading pool. Splash pads that use filtration do exist, but typically only on areas where supply is an issue. 1/2

Four of the five stores in my city have closed recently and the one the remains is a shadow of its former self: half empty shelves, few customers, and discounted kitchenware for some reason. There are only 16 stores remaining in Canada down from 81 in 2021.
