I forget which podcast it was but a mother (call her Mrs Smith) tells the incredible (though heartbreaking) story of her son. As a teen he's just out of control, drugs, running with the bad crowd, shoplifting, every night he's out and she's dreading he'll be hurt or worse and she'll get that call from the cops, until one night the call finally comes. And the cops say: "Mrs Smith we're so sorry. Your son has been struck by lightning."
Remember that Facebook page or Twitter account or whatever, called "Whale Facts" and it had a pic of an avocado labelled "This is not a whale" and people went absolutely fucking insane over that? I love that. That's my religion. Working out how to be a smartass at international scale.
Lewis Carroll would have loved watching this process WAY too much.

Yeah yeah Mr Toot.
A damsel with a dulcimer In a vision once I saw: It was an Abyssinian maid And on her dulcimer she played, Singing of Mount Abora.
"The Human TORCH was DENIED a BANKLOAN."And the ultimate test, because it's full screech, but masculine:"They're coming in through the back door! Save the children! Save... save the children!"
"OMG such a cheap trash journalism trick, a gotcha question, making Trump admit he knows he's a rapist!" - MAGA, I'm gonna assume.
No but it's also in the post, see? Under the pic.
Oh. Well my bad. But i think it was how you said "specifically Illinois Nazis" where the post includes the specific term "Illinois Nazis" that confused me. Plus it's totally easy to read it as "These guys hate Antifa..."
3 - Profit.
I think we're reading it wrong. I think only the title and text are supposed to go together: "These guys hate... Illinois nazis." And then the image stands alone: The Blues Brothers are Antifa (which they are).
Woah... sounds like bullshit, Terry.
RICK: A ha! And what makes you think the cat man is a man?!NEIL: [briefly considers, then decides] His penis. (Young Ones, possibly paraphrased.)
What is "life size" for a cat man? Could be anything. Terrifying to think about. Life size? As long as it doesn't try to tickle my fancy...
Oh, sure, it was 100% the "chef culture" back then. So he's evolved over his life as a multi-millionaire restaurant tycoon and media personality. I'm just glad he seems to have gone in the direction of "I came to realise all these employees I depend on to make my millions, are people too". Marco himself... I'm just not sure about. He's WEIRD now, but is he nice?
I mean: he's posting on social media saying he's been cut off, he says the next guy along is a cannibal, he says some other guy is eating the paint off the walls, he says he's posting using a "slitter" (sic) of light from a tiny window (??!?!)... it's super hard to disagree with your theory here.
This fucker thinks he's in the Bastille because he doesn't know what the Bastille looks like and also he doesn't know that when they did finally storm that Bastille there were only seven people in there: Four forgers, two mentally ill dudes, and an aristocrat who'd been snitched on by his own family for incest.
You've spoken your piece, and counted to three.

human lifetimes upon lifetimes to do by hand, to come back with "yes. It's a fairly nice day". AND POSSIBLY BE WRONG. Anyway. My point: They cracked a problem about how computers can read your inputs more efficiently and that lead to LLMs and now these companies are desperately trying to find a nail for their super-expensive hammer they invented because they are so clever.
"What is the most statistically likely word to come next in this sentence?" That's the core concept right? It's amazing, in many ways. "Frictionless computing". You rock up to Claude and you say "yeah uh so Claude I uh want to like, organise my tax receipts or whatever?" and Claude jumps into doing that, no software knowledge needed on your part. And that's just the start. But... the inefficiency is insane. You ask "is it a nice day" and these LLMs crunch hard math, math that would take a /4
hacking away at existing code systems, others doing other stuff... and then The Transformer 8 came up with the idea of the "transformer" and suddenly you have this insane thing where you ask a computer "Hey should I wear black or blue to my mother's funeral?" and it takes that and compares it to everything ever written ever (that it knows anyway) and builds this 1536 dimension (1024+512, see) probabilistic grid matrix whatnot that then allows it to generate a text response based on the idea /3
Flip ahead to the 2010s. This idea of cryptocurrency comes about. It's a sophisticated technical thing. It's a computer program that does a thing. Do we need that thing? Jury is still out. AI is more obviously useful... maybe. LLMs exist because a bunch of dudes at Google were trying to "fix the problem" of the way your plain language instructions were read into "the computer" one word at a time, which was very slow. They literally had people going through physics and math papers, other people/2
I reckon AI is like crypto and something we're going to see more and more of if we survive into the future. It's a tool that was invented before the need for that tool existed. Historically, we humans see problems and think "I bet I could make a tool to fix this problem." The horse collar is the classic example: We had these horses. We knew they were strong. We couldn't use them to blow fields because the yoke didn't work on them. Someone "fixes" the problem by inventing the horse collar /1
The sweary angry stuff is all an act from a particular period in his TV career. You should watch him hosting a KIDS cooking competition. He's amazing. Kids are watching cakes collapse and collapsing themselves into tears and he totally turns them around and gets them back into the game. The man has major empathy.

We need a word that encompasses both the concept of "on some level he knows he's lying" but on another level means "it's different to normal lying because normal lying you're trying to get an angle on something, DO something, and sure he's kinda doing that but also he's just making it up, but it's not like normal making up stuff, there's always that hint of deliberate lying but also ugh it's so annoying why can't I lock this down? Do you know what I mean? Ah fuck him, dirty old liar."
No Harry Chapin fans in here? Okay I'll slink back to my sort of area...
