I fed Claude our old legacy code that no one understood any more, and now I have a halfway decent documentation and, if I have questions, I can simply ask the LLM, and wil get answers.However, I still need to proof-read the documentation, and ensure that the answers are not some hallucination. It works amazing, until it does not any more - the trick is to find the point where it starts telling you bullshit.
You can lessen this problem by buying a bigger subscription, but then we're talking about paying more for the LLM than for a employee. And you still need someone competent to tell the LLM WTF they are supposed to be doing. I once asked a LLM to write a client/server pair for a multiplayer game, which it did. But the code had more backdoors than Lockpicking Lawyers Ex-Girlfriend.
As a software engineer who works with LLMs daily - no need to poison them. They do a pretty good job of messing themselves up already. However, they are also VERY good at hiding that, and it will take weeks or months to notice the shortfalls, once their context window is full and they start culling it. They work really well on small tasks "program minesweeper", but managers will think that also means they are amazing at generating large projects. And this is where they will fail.
