The one firing seems to be of a smaller, slighter build, also their footwear looks more like trainers than boots, according to some sites the on e standing by is meant to be an instructor (who you'd think would know who makes better operators for various things) teaching new recruits, though you'd normally wait until they'd left school, mind you, a longer video shows the instructor reaching under to stop it spinning, then deciding to touch the barrel

Not the way the gun in the above video is off-center, with the entire gun on one side of the pintle and the ammo box on the other. The GAU-8 is mounted in the A-10 such that the firing barrel is centered, which, because of its design, happens to put the other barrels off-center.

Yeah, I have always fired from either an M3 tripod or the pintle from the commander's hatch of an M113 or a HMMWV.
TBH, from the tripod, firing free gun is generally frowned on and I always had a T&E and properly filled out range card.

So, the M2 mount is designed to balance the mass of the gun and an ammo can off to the side. I don't think this is an M2 tho.... looks like 20mm as the barrel looks very wrong for an M2

Thats correct, these dingleberries use a YakB 12.7, normally used for helicopters. Looks like they added a pair of crutches to counter the swiveling force from the recoil, but in this case it mostly assisted in tossing the gunner off the lorry.

That’s because the YakB is a rotary barrel system firing around 4-5000 rounds per minute. For comparison the M2 family is 450-600rpm and the higher fire rate M3 typically found in aircraft is around 1200rpm. The YakB has a fire rate like an M61 Vulcan.
Mounting a YakB this way is what I presume might be a stupid/desperate way of trying to stop Ukrainian Long Range Sanctions.

Yeah, I saw an estimate that only 10-12% of Ukrainian long drones make it thru Russian air defenses.... for Midrange drones it is closer to 80-90%, mostly because Ukraine has basically eliminated all Russian air defense assets inside Ukraine.

So, I have seen an M134 mounted on a helicopter and got to play with it (static on the ground), the mount is not a free gun, it has built in resistance to prevent it from whipping.

The M134 mounts are designed by actual engineers and the firing barrel is in the center of the mount. These idiots mounted a gun that fires a much larger round at the same rate of fire offset so the recoil happens on one side of the mount.

I went to door gunner school and they showed us how to put the M134 into operation, then handed us an M60 when we got on the helicopters to qualify...
The aerial gunnery range is the silliest thing I have ever done in the US Army... you basically just hold the trigger down as you cross targets... the pilot told me beforehand that if he hears constant fire from me, he will consider it a job well done.
Sadly, I never did the job again (they wanted everyone qualified).
