Best way I had it explained (although I won’t replicate it well) was you see an electrical cable between pylons far away. From that distance it just looks like a line. But imagine you are an ant on that cable. That cable to the ant is a big flat 2D surface is it walking on. The closer you inspect the more dimensions you can see. Or something like that anyway.
