I feel like I need to know more about the Ministry of Latent Places

2 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

A brief websearch suggests that "latentplaces DOT org" may be of interest to individuals with disposable income.

Just when I'm ready to give up hope for humanity, I'm reminded that someone spent a lot of time and effort to create this ridiculous nonsense. I love it!!!!

I appreciate the implication that the department hasn't harmed them yet, out of the presumption that they can feel pain.
It goes against the usual stereotype of paranormal-focused government agencies jumping for joy at any chance to vivisect something.

2 years ago | Likes 102 Dislikes 0

That's what they >Said<. They definitely got a couple taken apart already.

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

We may or may not have a Dept of SCP. Don't ask.

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

It's how you know it isn't real

2 years ago | Likes 20 Dislikes 0

It's been a while since I did a deep trawl through the relevant wiki but doesn't the SCP Foundation prefer to not try to harm/damage something that isn't actively being a threat to life?

2 years ago | Likes 14 Dislikes 2

It's cool, they have an Ethics department

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

The Foundation's mandate is to contain and study anomalies, not destroy them (unless there's no other choice, or it's 682). How successful they are at it varies from researcher to researcher, Site to Site, and author to author.

2 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

Apparently you've somehow managed to not read any of the SCPs that involve throwing countless D-class personnel at an anomaly, for bafflingly insignificant reasons.

2 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

By "something" I was referring to the anomalies. D-class are nameless, faceless and utterly expendable to the point where the writers have to handwave where D-class are found in enough numbers. There are also the scips where the Foundation goes straight for the MTFs and bypasses D-class entirely.

2 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 1

It varies. They try not to damage things that can't be replaced. But there was the guy who randomly shifts dimensions and when another version of him showed up from someone else's universe they dissected him.

2 years ago | Likes 12 Dislikes 0

Well you just said it, once they got the second one they had a replacement...

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I remember one where someone gained an ability from a Safe SCP, and they no longer needed to breath. And the very next sentence was the results from their autopsy. They weren't a danger to anyone, had no side effects, and had an ability that would be extremely useful against dozens of SCPs. But the foundation's first instinct was still "slice 'em open and ask questions later."
It's an extremely stupid trope, and some writers on that site lean WAY too hard into it.

2 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 0

Almost as bad as throwing a pointless [REDACTED] over anything they aren't imaginative enough to elaborate on...

2 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

There is that. I can't think of any other similar examples though - but I do remember the one about the anomalous rocking chair that another paranormal group (the GOC, I think) ran through a woodchipper simply because it was anomalous much to the Foundation's fury
