Maybe an unpopular opinion, but I don’t want the Dems to waste time on impeachment. Unless they win literally every senate race and get every democratic senator on board with the impeachment (won’t fucking happen thanks Fetterman) it’ll just be a waste of time and money. I’d rather they spend their time and effort on undoing as much of the damage he did as possible, and ending the war, which they can do with a simple majority.

Barring a two-thirds Democratic majority we almost certainly are not. For Trumpism to go away it needs to be defeated in a landslide but morons are always looking for excuses to write the Dems off as exactly as bad as Republicans. First president impeached 3 or 4 times depending on how well the midterms are rigged. I anticipate ice being at the polls and ppl dying bc of it. I dont wanna see it, but he just keeps breaking the law, and violating the constitution, and getting away with it. So ice will be at the polls, a judge will make an order to not do that, they will do it anyways, citizens will be detained. Someone will fight for their rights and die, or multiple ppl. We will linger in a hostile limbo and then.....

SCOTUS has a power to also remove a president, Congress can't stop that either (but we know the current SCOTUS won't do that)

The Chief Justice of the SCOTUS runs the trial, but the Senate renders the decision (they're effectively the jury). The problem is that winning a majority in the Senate isn't enough -- they need 67 votes int he Senate to convict.

The vast majority of senators are selfish cunts only interested in personal benefits and control over others. There's two steps. The House impeaches with a 50% majority, then the Senate holds a trial. You need 67 votes in the Senate to convict. With how partisan Congress is on all things Trump, you either need to replace a *lot* more Republicans in the Senate than is likely in the midterms, or for a bunch of Republican Senators to grow a spine and start doing their jobs instead of kissing Trump's ass. Without 67 votes in the Senate, impeachment by the House is just a symbolic gesture.

There's also the consideration on whether they can be barred from future Federal Office. The impeachment conviction can be a 2 stage process.
Alcee Hastings was one of the Federal judges who was impeached, convicted, and removed from office. He wasn't barred, which allowed him to be elected to the House as a Rep from Florida.
