The hatchet

Cheesecake is technically overcooked, but FAR from inedible, probably a little dry. The rest 😥🫣

Some of these hurt my soul and made me want to go lay down for a while. I feel for them

the one dropping the mold on a perfect cake... ;_;

3 weeks ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

The cheese cake and last brownie look good. The top getting caramelized (golden brown and harder than the rest) is a feature, not a bug.

3 weeks ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

The worst part about making cheese cake is when it cracks while baking so now you have to quickly eat all of it yourself and make a new one.

Cover it with fruit!

I made 3 trays of perfect brownies yesterday. They are cut into servings and in my deep freezer. Now I have brownies for months. I love that

Sourdough lady had the right response. Put it back together and walk away.

My first solo turkey barely fit in my oven where I lived once. It almost flowed over with the juices the pan was so small. It was that close to being one of these.

I pulled a roasted chicken out of our oven and I bobbled it. All the grease spilled into the carpeted (WHY?!) kitchen floor.

I feel the sourdough one. I've never been able to bake bread

3 weeks ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

hey better than my first cheesecake, my first cheese cake i didnt mix it well enough and after spending 2 days in the fridge it had the consistancy of milkshake... with a biscuity base. it tasted good but uh.. you couldnt exactly slice it lol

Change your smoke detector battery, lady

I wanted a croissant, but all I got was a carbon copy.

Yeah. When I 1st saw it, it was pretty fresh.

My.mom used to make cheesecakes fairly regularly.

one time she excitedly told me that for the first time ever, it came out flawlessly with no cracks on the top. I said that's great! So what did she do differently this time?

And she looked rather sheepish and said she followed the recipe.

My mom liked to experiment when she cooked.

(In this case, she tried using the recommended water bath for the first time)

These are awesome because every single great baker has started right here. lol

My Mom let me start baking in middle school. Layered box cakes only. My cakes kept coming out uneven, or lopsided, because I didn't understand you had to smooth the batter after you pour it into the pan.

The fun part was that I became a chubby kid baking a cake whenever there was mix in the house. lmaoooo

The texture on the brotein brownies confuses and entices me. Reminds me of space food sticks

3 weeks ago | Likes 12 Dislikes 0

Now i want to try the brownies, because of space food sticks comparison.

It DOES look like it would be a weirdly good texture, i actually really wanna take at least one bite of it, lol

That cheese cake is looking pretty good though.

3 weeks ago | Likes 466 Dislikes 0

I bake a lot and it's rather overcooked- cheesecake shouldn't have a toasty looking color on top and it should be very smooth, not rippled in the center. But it's probably still going to be good. I personally like them slightly overdone. It takes a while to learn what level of jiggle actually means they've finished baking and I wouldn't expect most first timers to use a water bath so yes- it's still great for a first attempt even if it doesn't meet all the "standards".

3 weeks ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

Also most of the brownies were messed up because people used an electric mixer. Brownies and things like biscuits should only be hand stirred and it's okay if the batter is still lumpy.

3 weeks ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

If that was her first time? Yeah, thats a damn good one. My first attempt at cheesecake was basically soup, it just wouldnt set at all.

3 weeks ago | Likes 22 Dislikes 1

My first attempt came out great. My second... Not as good, but still good.

Which seems to be the way things go for me?

3 weeks ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

I am also not much of a baker, i can make a serviceable focaccia, in fact, basic breads are kinda easy, its stuff like pastry and cakes where i begin to fail pretty hard.

3 weeks ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

My first attempt at cheesecake, I doubled everything in the recipe...except the sugar. It actually was so freaking good that way.

3 weeks ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

I had one where there was a massive crack through most of the cheesecake... I piped a pretty design of whipped cream on the top and no one ever knew.

3 weeks ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

You just made cheese

3 weeks ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Yeah, I make cheesecake fairly often and I don't see how that's a fail. Looks beautiful, especially for a first try.

3 weeks ago | Likes 12 Dislikes 0

I don't even like cheesecake and I can tell that's probably gonna be a good one. Also looks like they lined the bottom with tin foil, so they don't have to deal with it sticking to the spring pan at all. Very well done.

3 weeks ago | Likes 61 Dislikes 1

As someone who can't ever get enough cheesecake, I can't fathom you not liking it. Lol

3 weeks ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

That foil is on the outside of the pan. It was most likely used as a barrier to keep water out when they baked it.

3 weeks ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

I alwys line mine with parchment paper, works great

3 weeks ago | Likes 35 Dislikes 0

Parchment paper (NOT WAX PAPER) is a godsend.

3 weeks ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

Parchment paper: non-stick cleanliness. wax paper: fire

3 weeks ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I see you have played and lost waxy/parchy before

3 weeks ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

That tinfoil is going to be hell to deal with when you eat the cake
It is likely to break up to bits and stick to the cake

3 weeks ago | Likes 24 Dislikes 2

What damn foil are you using that it easily tears like that?

3 weeks ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 2

My foil don't jiggle jiggle; it tears.

3 weeks ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Bruh, what aluminum foil doesn't rip and tear easily?

3 weeks ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 1

Most of them? Like if your foil is ripping up just from it being used you need to get new foil. Even great value foil doesn't tear off into little pieces just from using it. From your description you might as well not use it ever.

3 weeks ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

If the foil doesn’t rip and tear, it never gets done!

I’ve done that one. It’s remarkable how hard dried brownies can get. I still ate it once I got some shards off.

Practice makes perfect.
Practicing the wrong way every time will get you only so far.
Trying and retrying again. That is how you learn and improve.
"Thank You Chef."
I have learnt.

3 weeks ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

I don't know what's supposed to be wrong with that, but I'll take it if you don't want it.

3 weeks ago | Likes 20 Dislikes 0

It was too runny and thin. And too warm. Ran right off. Proportion of chocolate ganache to cake was way off. Needed a thicker layer.

I just cooled it, wiped off the plate, and remade the ganache.

This was the filling. Pastry cream and cherries. The cherry filling is sweet cherries, with dried tart cherries that I soaked in cherry liqueur.

3 weeks ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 0

Vanilla bean pastry cream.
