Please don't let this die in usersub. More people need to know.

Edit: over 400 updoot, but no FP. Fishy if your ask me.

Second Edit: over 1k updoots, but no fp still.

FP Edit: two edits and 3 hours later. Finally on FP. Yes it was built in 2016, I know. The point of this is that there is almost no media coverage of this. Yes there are lots of statues of lots of things, but in a country that was stolen from the people that this statue represents, you'd think this of all would have better coverage.

Get off your stupid high horse. It's a statue. I'm sure it was covered locally, but god damn not everything merits national media.

The post (and sculpture) is nice but the whining about FP on an irrelevant website to all of it makes the whole thing disingenuous.

7 years ago | Likes 45 Dislikes 2

Downvote because of frontpage whoring. Relax pls

7 years ago | Likes 158 Dislikes 13

Same. Downvoted.

7 years ago | Likes 52 Dislikes 6

If history is anything to go by, I'd avoid that blanket

7 years ago | Likes 17 Dislikes 1

Has to be the most blatant pint whoring I’ve ever see

7 years ago | Likes 68 Dislikes 2

How much media coverage do you expect a 2 year old statue to get?

7 years ago | Likes 29 Dislikes 0

It's pretty... But why do more people need to know?

7 years ago | Likes 26 Dislikes 1

Probably because it's 2 1/2 years old.

7 years ago | Likes 17 Dislikes 0

People who say We Stole The Land From The Natives should only be taken seriously if they are willing to surrender their property to a Native

7 years ago | Likes 29 Dislikes 4

IMHO rather than land-stealing it's more useful to talk about what was done to their people, civilization and culture. I'm no expert ofc.

7 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 2

"we nearly killed them all, let's at least keep their culture/civilization alive" and such seems like a more reasonable position

7 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 1

I mean, I like it and all, but why is this one of those "important things we need to share to everyone" exactly?

7 years ago | Likes 50 Dislikes 2

Because it's a great statue dedicated to great people?

7 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 80

And you're point whoring off those "great people"? Despicable. You should be ashamed of yourself.

7 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 1

It's dedicated to the Lakota Sioux, who, FYI, had a history of genocidal warfare against other plains indian tribes.

7 years ago | Likes 17 Dislikes 1

But the reason it isn't getting much coverage is because it already did get its share, 3 years ago, when it was completed. Not "recently".

7 years ago | Likes 25 Dislikes 0

It probably hasn’t gotten much publicity because it’s a statue. It’s very pretty, but there are many statues.

7 years ago | Likes 86 Dislikes 5

It's not like it's a giant chrome elk.

7 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

So retarded how people say stolen land... Like every other nation on earth wasn’t inhabited by someone else at some point. It was conquered.

7 years ago | Likes 38 Dislikes 7

It is beautiful, but do statue unveilings generally get much national publicity?

7 years ago | Likes 17 Dislikes 0

Usually when it's native American stuff.

7 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 40

And why would that matter? It's a nice statue, but not because it's about the natives.

7 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

You had my updoot until the last line. Then you had to go and be a douche.

7 years ago | Likes 82 Dislikes 4

How is saying a fact being a douche? Hope you stay under your rock sheltering yourself from hard to swallow truths.

7 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 6

how was it douchey if it's true? I don't see nothing but facts in that last line.

7 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 9

It was their opinion. Based on nothing but their own anecdotal evidence. "I haven't seen any coverage so there must not have been enough"

7 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

And they tried to throw in a wrongdoing and guilt to support that there was a lack of coverage, without actually giving real proof.

7 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

You can say more people need to see it, you should not do it in this way, at all. Plus the status updates and everything around FP was sad.

7 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

This statue looks like Soviet era monuments depicting the Motherland.

7 years ago | Likes 19 Dislikes 2

That made me chuckle.

7 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 37

Boo this OP

7 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 0

7 years ago | Likes 25 Dislikes 1

That was a lot funnier than it should have been.

7 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 29

I thought my last soviet country the only one where such ugly statues remain

7 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 0

Wow this really nice! Beautiful!

7 years ago | Likes 31 Dislikes 2

“wHy IsNt thIS MoRE pOPuLaR?” Ugh, if only I could downvote twice.

7 years ago | Likes 226 Dislikes 20

You could always report it as spam!

7 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Have you seen the justification for point whoring the OP is doing in the comments?

7 years ago | Likes 44 Dislikes 2

Not to mention the ANGERY EDITS. "Oh it's not on the fp? CoNsPiRaCy!"

7 years ago | Likes 35 Dislikes 2

Tag Extradownvote to downvote a post twice.

7 years ago | Likes 15 Dislikes 1

Why haven't I seen this comment anywhere in the mainstream media?

7 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

As usual, something said by idiots who make no attempt to follow news, and then complain that they didn’t see the news.

Bruh, I am white.

7 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 66

And apparently dumb too.

7 years ago | Likes 25 Dislikes 2

I didn't steal anything from anybody. I was born here.

7 years ago | Likes 22 Dislikes 3

"New" It's from Sep 2016.

7 years ago | Likes 526 Dislikes 24

It still has the new statue smell

7 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

3 years is pretty new in the life of statues

7 years ago | Likes 30 Dislikes 8

So what's the statue of limitations here?

7 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Yeah that's new that's only 3 years ago

7 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 2

7 years ago | Likes 73 Dislikes 3

That's totally fair, but this was presented like "This is new and nobody is talking about it" virtue signaling to get some outrage upvotes.

7 years ago | Likes 23 Dislikes 2

It's not for outrage, I promise. I would just like more people to be able to give it its just due.

7 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 36

Point whore fuck off

7 years ago | Likes 18 Dislikes 5

Yeah, I instinctively ignored the outrage signaling. It seems like everyone does it all the time now... Cool statue is still cool.

7 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

The point is that it was put up and still nothing about it.

7 years ago | Likes 20 Dislikes 149

Damn, so many downvotes. Sometimes imgur totally sucks

7 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 12

People are downvoting because he was bitching about not being on fp when there hadn't been enough time to be on fp.

7 years ago | Likes 11 Dislikes 0

It made front page in 2016 when it was up. Stop whoring your white guilt.

7 years ago | Likes 26 Dislikes 1

Lol!!!!!!!!!!

7 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

I've seen quite a few things about it. Even visited on a cross country trip two years back. It's breathtaking!

7 years ago | Likes 12 Dislikes 0

Beautiful view of the Missouri there too

7 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Yeah, I see your point. There must be some conspiracy keeping anyone from knowing about it.

7 years ago | Likes 71 Dislikes 7

Over 1k updoots and no FP. There's something going on.

7 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 115

How can you reach the keyboard while self-fellating?

7 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Yeah there's something going on with your head

7 years ago | Likes 59 Dislikes 1

Nah man your on the fp. Not everything is a conspiracy.

7 years ago | Likes 28 Dislikes 1

Right? As if imgur was some Illuminati overlord that cared about blocking a post about some stupid fucking statue in butt fuck nowhere.

7 years ago | Likes 15 Dislikes 1

Think I know why it hasn't been talked about.....because it's in South Dakota

7 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

And this happened a few years ago.

7 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 1

As someone who lives here, it is a truly beautiful statue.

7 years ago | Likes 72 Dislikes 4

Have you spent time in Chamberlain?

7 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

If you can get to it. In this state you travel 100 miles you're just 100 miles from where you started

7 years ago | Likes 15 Dislikes 0

Can someone explain why my phone GPS said I was in Washburn (sp?) While sitting in my car at work in calgary... did I find a glitch??

7 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 1

You are in a portal

7 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 1

I'm surprised they allowed the statue to be built, they treat the Natives like shit there.

7 years ago | Likes 13 Dislikes 8

They do? You're sure?

7 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 1

Yes, I have friends who lived on reservations there, and high school kids would vandalize their houses and cops would do nothing about it,

7 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 3

You do know how reservation jurisdiction works, right? Oh wait...

7 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 4

As someone who's wife is part of the stillaguamish tribe of Indians, yes I do. You do know that not all tribes have their own cops and still

7 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 3

That's also where a bunch of native women were being kidnapped and sold into sex slavery, and shitty half assed investigations were held

7 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 3

Because they really dont care about native affairs. Theres few places where natives are treated with respect but SD is the worst.

7 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 3

It's not getting press because it's not generating controversy.

7 years ago | Likes 24 Dislikes 3

It got press... when it was unveiled three years ago. OP apparently missed the memo.

7 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

So you're saying if someone spray painted it with white supremacy slogans.... people would care about it?

7 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 0

Even if the artist hired his two black personal trainers to paint the hate symbols

7 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

7 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 1

So the...... right thing for equality.... would be to give this more publicity.... by spray painting hate dymbols on it.... for equality?

My first thought. My siblings and I now have a rule. Whenever we play any sort of "draw the word" game we put dignity into the batch. Then

7 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

we just draw a circle and nobody will know wtf is going on, but we'll have the answer in a split second.

I feel like the blanket part should either be a windmill or a solar panel.

7 years ago | Likes 149 Dislikes 22

I came here to make a smallpox joke but someone already beat me too it

7 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

For accuracy the blanket should be laced with smallpox

7 years ago | Likes 25 Dislikes 4

The colored sections of the blanket rotate in the wind... Source... Seent it

7 years ago | Likes 23 Dislikes 0

How? They seem ingrained in the stone?

7 years ago | Likes 12 Dislikes 23

Really? Thank you for telling me. I would have had no idea.

7 years ago | Likes 22 Dislikes 32

Mmmm...that doesn't add up.

7 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 1

I just hope they did the math on the wind load for the structure and foundation...

7 years ago | Likes 15 Dislikes 2

It looks like an excellent wind catch doesn't it?

7 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

The colored panels rotate to let the wind through. The picture was taken on the one calm day apparently

7 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

So it really could be a windmill of sorts.
