Why would Hegseth read the art of war? He already "knows" that the deciding factor in any military conflict is that whichever side is "least woke" and most aggressively persecutes its own troops based on race and sexuality wins. Unfortunately for him, he picked a war against another far right theocracy, so even by his own logic he's screwed.
Americans: "Fuck Nazis and Klansmen!" MAGA: "left wing extremists are threatening violence against the president"
It turns out, apparently, that all you need to do is confidently insist that you are "Making America Great" and accuse anyone that criticizes you of "hating America" and you can cause as much destruction and harm as you'd like, and enough idiots will believe you that you can keep getting away with it almost indefinitely.
right...
I said "neo-Nazi" and "parent comment" - not "Nazi" and "post." Different words can mean different things.
I find that enduring small amounts of discomfort- heat, cold, headache, etc. seems to raise my tolerance over time, so life ultimately just feels more comfortable and enjoyable. It's not that I think it's "noble to suffer" but rather that (perhaps counter-intuitively), becoming a little mentally tougher makes life more enjoyable, as I suffer less on average, not more. Conversely, the more I avoid even mild discomforts, the more fragile and constantly uncomfortable I begin to feel.
But we are not discussing all people that deny climate change, we are specifically talking about neo-Nazis that also deny climate change, per the parent comment- and the motivation for them to deny climate change is the same as their motivation to deny all other serious issues that threaten their political narrative that all problems worth acting on are caused by minorities. They're not racist because they deny climate change, they deny climate change strategically, to push a racist agenda.
I got that, but it's not accurate. It's a difference of values dishonestly masquerading as a difference of opinion. These fascists "with a difference of opinion" aren't climatologists with a different technical perspective, they're racists that want to see society spending all of it's resources harming brown people instead of solving any real problems. They also deny literally all other real problems and existential risks. They see life as zero sum so focus exclusively on harming others.
Which is because fascists pretend reality is whatever is most convenient to them, rather than what it obviously actually is- they'll let a problem kill them before doing anything about it unless the "problem" is people of other races existing. Notice how they've pivoted from "the climate isn't changing," to "it's not caused by humans," to now it's "caused by humans but is a good thing." There is zero shared logic between those three positions other than not having to take any action.
Mar-a-lago face is a choice, not the way anyones body looks naturally. They are getting surgically modified to signal membership in a far right extremist group. If we can judge someone with a swastika forehead tattoo, we can judge them for this.
Is it still considered smiling, if it was installed surgically, rather than an actual expression of human emotion?
It turns out this is good! I didn't know it until Trump told us, but it turns out that higher gas prices, more foreign wars, high inflation, higher taxes, more national debt, less health care, and higher housing prices are all great things that will make our country great again! Even foreign immigration is good, as long as it's white supremacists from South Africa. It turns out Trump had to pivot with this new info about what is actually good after all. /s
Type IV fun - Not fun to do. Not fun in retrospect. Makes an awful/boring story.
This seriously sucks, that is terrifying. I was going to make a joke about "professional mining sandals" but this guy likely didn't choose these deadly conditions and lack of proper equipment... I'd guess he is either a slave, or this is literally the only option to keep his family from starving.
Your point about the odds is based on a wrong math assumption here- that each swing states ultimate outcome is essentially an independent random event, which isn't the case. The same underlying factors that cause an outcome to go in one direction, can affect other states as well, so they aren't statistically independent.
I agree that we need evidence, but it's an important consideration that Trump has weaponized the entire power of the US government to hide evidence of his crimes, and prevent justice from occurring.
Given the size of these boats, I assume they're in saltwater. Stray electricity in the water can be extremely deadly in freshwater, but in saltwater it's mostly not an issue, because the water conducts the current to ground so well it doesn't flow through your body. People dive in regularly to clean the bottom of nearly every boat in every saltwater marina in the world, and they're fine. Still, personally, I do unplug the actual boat I am diving under, just to be safe.
Out of here with your crazy conspiracy theories
Little known fact, but stove clocks aren't actually useful, because you have to know what time it is to set them, but if you know what time it is already, then you don't need a clock. Therefore, completely useless.
They are an apex predator that can swim 35mph, and live in an endless buffet of seafood that can only swim 1/10th as fast. It's worth considering that they would decide not to focus their lives on "progressing technology" even if they could do so and understood what it might enable, just like an awful lot of humans and human cultures do. Being in the ocean is what I love, and I love boats and diving tech, so probably wouldn't give a crap about technology if I were already an orca.
There's pretty universal changes in body dimensions, such as comparatively large eyes that make it obvious to any mammal that another mammal is a baby. It's very clear that dogs for example, know what a baby human is, and will often give them more understanding than they would an adult human. Obviously I can't read the mind of an Orca, but they are incredibly intelligent and I would be extremely surprised if they didn't understand the concept of a baby human and recognize them on sight.
I'm an academic, so only need to report to peer reviewers and agencies funding the grants, which are also scientists in my field. I don't envy people in industry that have to report to people above them that aren't technically competent. But of course, they probably get paid a lot more for the same kind of work.
yep, boating as a hobby is expensive, as a lifestyle without also having to pay for a house, it can be just about the most affordable way to live well. Older fiberglass boats are quite affordable, and usually not much expense to maintain if the previous owner stayed on top of things.
Depending on how long you lived there, that might have still been a huge savings over renting or paying a mortgage on a regular home. Wood boats are orders of magnitude more work and expense than fiberglass ones, and that's a big wooden sailboat- almost a full time job for a professional to maintain something like that. People living on smaller older fiberglass boats purchased in decent condition aren't ever spending close to $100k in materials to maintain them themselves.
An older fiberglass sailboat by a reputable designer and builder that has a 'cult following' will stay steady or appreciate in value if you maintain it in the same condition. I've owned 6 fiberglass sailboats, and all sold for more than I paid after years of sailing them, and keeping them well maintained. I put in a lot of labor doing maintenance with my sailing/boating, but other than time, 18 years of sailing has been break even for me. Same applies to classic cars- the right ones appreciate.
I'm a computational biologist that even builds and uses my own AI models in my research. If these stupid LLMs all disappeared tomorrow, I could work twice as fast because I wouldn't be wading through nonsense AI slop that is destroying the internet when trying to find accurate info online about how software libraries, etc. actually work and best practices for using them.
This is why he is so good at gaslighting people, and getting away with his crimes, he believes it himself and speaks with so much conviction, that other people start to doubt what they already know also. No matter how hard he is confronted with direct evidence of lying and wrongdoing, his brain is incapable of processing the possibility that he is ever wrong or ever did anything wrong.
The crazy thing about Trump, is he seems to legitimately believe all of his own lies, he does not know he is lying, or that he did anything wrong, so he feels he has nothing to hide. As a criminal and a narcissist, he commits crimes and massive harm to other people constantly, and reframes them for himself as him always doing the right thing, and he believes himself.
Exactly, fascism works by terrifying everyone into not resisting them. Their power comes from the ability to make you comply up front without resisting, but they largely don't have the resources to back up their threats.
Apparently stupidity does not always bring losing and death.
