Turns out many birds nest like this. We have lived around such birds for very long without it being an issue. Only the changes in agriculture practices from the 60s marked the start of the demise of ground nesting birds.This one species in particular has almost disappeared from where I leave.I find it sad that we are so disconnected from the natural world, that good chunk of the comments in here are about how 'dumb' this bird is to nest on the ground. It is how they live.

It's a collared pratincole, that's what they do. They are nearly invisible on the ground and that is their protection. Turns out tons of birds breed like this (bustards, lapwing, plovers, curlew...) most of them are endangered due to our change in agriculture practices. The pratincole has nearly disappeared from France, for this very reason. Good on the farmer to have saved it, not many have this chance.
And this only sounds clever if you fail to understand this beauty disappearing in the quote is about our every day life for the next few decades and not about what's to come in 60 million years...

The fish farmed are all carnivorous and need to be fed fishes or krill (as you can see). These protein sources are fished unsustainably which makes the matter worse. There are other critical issues with fish farms such as massive local pollution (tons of fishes shitting in one point), spread of diseases, genetic pollution of wild fishes (for salmon esp)

This is still a stupid idea : algae need light, water, and nutrients to grow just like a tree. The energy balance of these systems not using sunlight suck, so does the business model. Not one company has ever made money out of these systems but they keep appearing with new tech bro startups over and over again, guzzling public money because it is a sexy idea which we could use to fund PhD projects developed by researchers with actual ideas and comprehension of algae cultivation.
