It's not a change of identity, it's "a better sense of identity", which is very subjective. When a gang member becomes a religious zealot, for example, it may be perceived as a change of identity, however they are likely to be doing that because that new context is providing their existing identity a better sense for themselves, through a new sense of meaning. They might still be punching themselves in the head (identity), but for a different reason (meaning).

Theoretically, yes. The farther you are from the pivot, the more force / less effort required. I'm thinking it might just be flimsier or unstable in this particular case.
What fascinates me about extreme people is they are not connecting with the ideology itself (and it would be obvious if you were to have a conversation), but with the extremism and sense of meaning it provides. They would switch to any other "side" (political, religious, hybrid sub-cultures etc.) in a blink if it were to give them a better sense of identity. It kind of works for everyone, but most clearly shows at the edges of the intensity spectrum.
I grew up in communist Romania (some of you may have heard about Ceaușescu). My grandfather was working with a national newspaper and his job as an editor was to make sure all was printed was catering to the expectations of that one person. National TV had a similar approach. It was not a niche, it was all media.
I think that's the thing with cats. We form a family and each family is unique in routines and boundaries and ways of communicating and sharing the same space and time.
I suspect it's a trick to bypass algorithm filters and nothing more. Modern problems require modern solutions.

GRRM is all about killing hope in his works, particularly this series, and we still have hope that he'll do something different this time. I find it mesmerizing and ironic. It's such a special thing to have readers almost become part of the saga themselves.

I have seen plenty to not be concerned about that. But I want the world to see that.
Fun fact: most countries do not practice daylight saving time. Also it's cool to learn about monochronic vs. polychronic cultures.
I do hope that when that happens, nobody will be running to "help"
