Except that's not how it worked. Sea World made Americans care other *other* countries slaughtering whales. And Zoos created modern day conservationists. This is the same ugly reality the animal preserves in Africa face when they allow Safari hunters to kill the older, dying lions and elephants. The amount of money that they get from letting one rich dude shoot an already doomed animal pays for the rest of the park. Your donations aren't enough. Reality bites sometimes. Idealism kills tigers.
Spend all your time worrying about how the world should be and we won't have any tigers left. Until you or someone else finds a way to make people care without things like zoos and animal shows, those amusements will be the reason we still have wild tigers and whales.
It's not billionaires. It's huge in middle class and poor Chinese culture.

If you want to solve the income inequality issue, the answer is less government interference. The artificial suppression of interest rates and the multiplying of the monetary base have been incredibly stimulative, but in a way that has inflated the value of assets. And the poor don't often have assets. Fix the government, fix the problem.
The nominal inequity is irrelevant. The distribution of wealth across the society is highly relevant. And yes, that has gotten much much worse over the past couple decades. But this has nothing to do with billionaires and their inventions or acquisition strategies and everything to do with a government that continues to print money and inject it into a banking system that disproportionately benefits the already wealthy. Stop playing with the currency and the problem goes away.
Or we just wouldn't have any of it. The assumption that all inventions would happen no matter what is pretty crazy. Why didn't they just invent it 30 years earlier? Yes, Microsoft was an anti-competitive Juggernaut. And that was a real buzz kill if you were a company competing with them. But that is not remotely equivalent to stealing from the poor.Also, imgur really does not understand how equities work. Bill Gates is worth 200 billion, he does not have 200 billion.
There's a huge difference between being bullied for being different, and getting hit in the face for being an asshole.Conflating the two act and blaming the ass kicking just makes both problems worse. The loner school shooter doesn't become less isolated, and the asshole just becomes emboldened. Both are different problems with different prescriptions. And all of that comes before the reality that some problems don't have Happy endings.
