i saw someone do this.....poured boiling hot water on their windshield. huge crack in the glass (which didn't explode though). wipers were frozen solid. never seen anyone use a shovel on the window though. i'm a lazy man and am not ashamed to start the car, crank the heat and rear defroster to max while i clear the car off.
