Never heard of extraterritorialjurisdiction? Again, hearings in the NY Federal circuit were held in the Biden era. Others have actually been extradited when they left Venezuela from the same hearing. That source doesn’t say what you did. Your original claim was that the state “allowed” the action. The state actually prosecuted the guy and took him to trial. No plea bargaining or lessening of the charge. A jury acquitted him. Especially without knowing the full nuance of the defense claims, it seems a stretch to make it sound like the government of the state of Texas sanctioned it.
Marginal rates were that high, but there also were a LOT more deductions. When they crashed the rates but removed the deductions, it was actually called one of the largest peacetime tax increases in history. Even now, the effective tax rate (what’s actually paid), is only a couple % higher than present.

I find it hard to believe that the efficiency boost from moderately cooler temps (a cloudy day is worth what...5-10 degrees on average?) overcomes losing roughly half of the EM spectrum panels use.

Why are you omitting the exception actually brought up in court? That the law only applied to weapons with a barrel shorter than a given length. When the prosecution admitted it was compliant with the exception, it was dropped.
You might not have understood what I wrote above, but that's exactly what I said: offering the food on the service costs more. Therefore it has a higher price. Restaurants work on a tight COGS model and the fee disrupts it. It would be closer to gouging to charge the increased price on everything, not just the service incurring the increased cost to provide. Isolating the higher prices to the higher costing model is about as far from gouging as you can get.
I feel like folks here have completely abandoned what "gouging" means and just apply it to any price they don't like.Dealing with theft is a legitimate business cost. Dealing with increases expenses is a legit business cost. Most of the places you are thinking of don't have the margin to just "eat it." Increasing all their prices because of Uber/DD would be closer to gouging than limiting the increased prices to only the service with increased costs.
