Can a marine biologist explain to me how much the weight displacement of being beached without natural buoyancy would affect it? Would its weight damage the insides?
Whales usually suffocates when beached, because their bulk limits breathing under gravity when unsupported by water. But dolphins don't. An Orca is technically a large dolphin, so I would assume that Orcas have a much better chance of surviving a beaching. But it is guesswork on my behalf.
As much as humpback hate, there are reports of humpback spending the 8 to 10 hours creating waves to keep the orcha alive until high tide. Humpback are the guardians of the ocean.

Maybe living on an island gives me bias, but the orca is clearly caught in a tidal pool, and at least where I live the coast is very diverse in terms of geography.
It happened in alaska the tide rises and falls every 6 hours up to 15 feet, so once the water got high enough she was able to get out of there. They just kept her wet and protected her from overheating while waiting on the tide to come in. If she'd been left alone she might have survived but would be in a lot of pain.

I have been part of a beach wildlife rescue group. For baby seals you use beach towels, for porpoises and dolphins you use a tarp, for whales there's huge harness/tarp with holes in that they use if you can get enough people or heavy equiptment. Though I believe in this case the tide just came back in.
It may have gotteb stuck there during high tide and if the next high tide wasn't that far off they probably just had to keep it wet until the tide came back in. Depending on where the orca was it might have taken longer to get some kind of rescue boat or vehicle out that remotely.
