I know you are pointing out the hypocrisy here, but both things can be true at the same time. Fauci has a pre-emptive pardon from Biden, his only risk was perjuring himself because he was lying. To be clear I thought the Republican scapegoating of Fauci for Covid was abhorrent, and he did have some tough calls to make. But his diaries and his refusal to answer honestly here do raise some legitimate questions. Eg why did he did ignore most of his own scientists on the lab leak theory.

The retconned interpretation is the 2a is for self defence. I am not familiar with this argument, but I doubt that’s the intent of the founders. The key framing was that they were appalled at the abuses of power of a standing army in peacetime. As a result America did not really have a substantial standing army till the Militia act of 1903.

This overstates the case. The best we can say is there is weak evidence of long term harm. I support blockers as an intervention for trans kids but recognise it’s responsible to be cautious and better study the long term effects of extended delay of puberty or side effects of the blockers. It also helps to understand how any such effects can be minimised.
