Amateur human, professional dilettante. Practicing vertebrate. If you're reading this, know that you are loved, and you deserve that love.

FWIW, Dante actually got some of his ideas from some 1st century fanfic called the Books of Enoch. The gospel writers actually make reference to it, but it's not part of the Tanakh or any Christian canon outside of Ethiopia. (Still not the Bible; your point still stands)

It absolutely is. Apocalypticism describes ideologies regarding the end of days, and Jesus was arguably an apocalyptic preacher, as was Paul. So it's not entirely surprising that fundamentalist Christians would want to usher in the end of days. Incidentally, ISIS is also an apocalyptic cult.

That is SUPER impressive! Thanks for the explanation. And great work!

I am baffled by the mechanics of dead lifting. Isn't it murder on your back? Which muscle groups are primarily involved?

#44 Syd Mead! I went to an exhibition of his work in LA (at a cemetery, oddly enough) and I got to meet him!

Your art is really cool! And happy holidays.

And the crazy thing is, Kelly was attempting to use that as an excuse! "Well they only looked like 9 year olds, they were technically 15!" isn't the defense she thinks it is. If a 19 year old guy is dating am 18 year old BECAUSE she looks 11, that dude is still a predator.

It's so weird that the creators of that show heard Grieg's In the Hall of the Mountain King and thought, we could jazz this up and make it a theme song for a Get Smart style detective show for kids!

#8 is this true? I've never ventured into that realm but this definitely intrigues me...

These are great suggestions, thank you for sharing. And I'm proud of you for taking good care of yourself!

The key component is that, with both Caesar and Lincoln, the attacker yelled "sic semper tyrannis" AS they were attacking, with the implication that tyrants will always die a violent death, presumably at the hand of a evolutionary. So the phrase itself doesn't say "end badly", it's just the context.

I mean, in a 2 party system, any party that is splitting the vote doesn't get to take credit for the successes of 1 of the major parties.

I'm not a fan of sports, and I think baseball is is aggressively boring. But for some reason, baseball is a great vehicle for excellent storytelling. That episode of X Files is one of my faves, I loved Moneyball, and Field of Dreams is a classic.

Thanks so much for sharing Scrump with us, @op. He was beautiful and it takes courage to tell painful stories. People like you who help animals at work AND at home are the best people, IMHO.

Yeah that show is so much fun. I love the scene where he gets jumped in a parking lot by a biker gang and he just grabs a guy's chain and clotheslines a guy right off of his motorcycle.

Is that form of word play considered verlang? (I'm still trying to understand how that works.)

This is it. This is THE real headline.

Love this!

OP, I'm so, so sorry you are going through all of this but I am deeply grateful that you're sharing your story. People shouldn't have to suffer in silence or be made to feel that their pain is "all in their head."

Yup. I'm listening to the Princess Diarist right now and she's incredible.

#6 if this sort of thing amuses you then I highly recommend the book Interior Desecrations by James Lileks. It's kind of like if Mystery Science Theater wrote a picture book.

Also, that thing is clearly longer than her torso, and no way in hell do I believe that thing is snaking thru her GI tract

I get so frustrated when the media has this whole "can you believe this latest atrocity?" Yes! Of course we can imagine it, we've been watching it unfold for 10 years now!

Respectfully, we are already there. Yes, it can get much worse, and there are likely still things we can do to fight back. But Trump has been a thug and authoritarian since 2015, and nothing he's done since then has been surprising. He telegraphs his punches.

Just figured it out: there is a character on the podcast Comedy Bang Bang who makes people feel nostalgic, and this is the background music whenever he goes off on a reverie.

1 year ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Thank you both so much for identifying it! I actually never played Donkey Kong, but as I'm listening to this song I'm realizing that it was used as background in some weird video I saw on YouTube, I just can't remember which.

What is the song playing in the background? It's super familiar but I can't place it.

The other missing piece of information here is that, especially after the passage of the GDPR, most web site operators are required by law to anonymize any collected data. Cookies capture far more information about your activities, in my experience, than tracking parameters.
