Many, many businesses do this. Personally, I've had tow truck/AAA stuff and machine shop stuff from every shop I worked at. My family even has pens with their name on them because of the farm.

My lasers kerf was only .007 inches, paper is .004. I could hold +/- .001 tolerances all day. Check my post to see my old machines
Just like plasma that metal has to go somewhere. The difference is how it heats the metal, they both use air pressure to blow the molten metal away. Pure o2 will burn hotter and melt through thicker metal but I usually used nitrogen to get less heat stress in the parts, you can use normal air from an air compressor too
It's the focal lens. The fiber optic and beam and about a half inch and that lens will focus it down to .006. I ran a similar laser, I made a post if you want to see
