Asking why AI is inevitable is like asking why planes were inevitable. They aren't required for travel. We saw birds can do it though so we're going to do it. If its possible for us to do and it makes lives easier (theoretically) it's going to happen. If we figure out how to create fusion reactors, we'll do it. If we figure out how to make a black hole, someone will do it. You'd have to halt global progress to prevent it.

It would allow us to reach places we've never reached before while not having to endanger our own lives. It is the complement to biology.
