I mean you, the reader or watcher or whatever, have determined that because its the writer who made the choice it doesn't matter what the character does or says ultimately, because its not really the characters choice.Therefore, why should the pronouns or names, which are also the choice of that same writer, be respected by you when you cannot respect it in this instance?

It is relatively easy to understand literary works and not understand gendered pronouns. Especially if you come from a culture or species that has neither gender nor pronouns for them. Many earth cultures don't have them, but they have plenty of collective pronouns like we or us.
Then with that logic why not just call everyone the wrong pronouns or even the wrong name?
