My guess is that they were empty threats meant to shut them down to stop them from doing whatever the hell they thought they were doing.

I agree. The elites and their companies should pay their fair share in wages and taxes.
People can't live on dignity. Somebody needs to compensate the people that provide those things.
Those people deserve the right to a proper wage to earn those things.

None of those things are free, they are paid for by the taxpayer, and they are typically of very low quality.
