My old dentist retired (at like 85!), and now his ~45 year old son runs the practice

Did you ever get the reduced-calorie 'training' version? This is them, I think.

I want an opposition party that's actually as awesome as the fascist reactionaries make the Democrats out to be

But voting isn't throwing anyone a rope; it's hoping that someone else will throw a rope.

Voting is a social contract between two parties, with a massive power disparity between them.

Voting is not a moral or ethical precept. If appealing to those things was ever going to motivate people to vote, it would have by now.

Vote shaming does not work

I love Pookleblinky. I found them through screenshots here and I was so glad when they migrated from Xitter to Bluesky

Not something we can realistically have within the bounds of the current system - too many politicians are fully invested in neoliberalism

It's important to note, however, that voting isn't a moral precept; it is a social contract.

Can't show me a socialist country that didn't suffer from capitalist interventions, can you?

Every *single* country on that list went mostly peacefully over to anti-capitalist governments and every *single* one of them was punished severely for it. It wasn't the greed of their leaders that made them authoritarian, that was what they had to do to stand up for their people against Western guns and bombs, wielded solely to aid the richest men in society against workers who wanted a better world

Show me a 'socialist' country that hasn't suffered endlessly from capitalist 'interventions'. If socialism devolves into authoritarian rule, it is because of the effect of capitalist countries, chiefly the US, who assassinate leaders, plant spies, and when that fails, invade and install puppets. To resist that, any anti-capitalist nation will eventually be forced to adopt some authoritarian elements, but this is not a feature of socialism

... okay. Please read literally any history book not written to serve the interests of the ownership class and come back when you have a better understanding of the subject at hand

... yes? It's a bad take, is the point I was making. Greed doesn't 'ruin' capitalism, it IS capitalism. Greed doesn't ruin "socialism" for whatever definition of that word you might use. To say that 'both sides' are 'greedy' is a terribly flawed place to begin an argument

"greed... ruins both those situations"

The comment I was replying to seems to assert that greed is the reason billionaire-owned companies steal from the public pursue, 'ruining' capitalism, AND greed is the reason people ask for too much, 'ruining' some nebulously-defined "socialism". It's a false equivalency that only someone without much knowledge of either could possibly make

You could; but not all of them

Equating the 'greed' of people who need aid and want to survive and thrive with the unfettered avarice of barely-human monsters is a look

'Free market capitalism' is a unicorn that has never and will never exist. Capitalism is and always was corrupt and anti-democratic
