I keep seeing polling and voting results that show people vote for philosophies and bite their tongues through results. Republican philosophy lets you ignore everyone and everything else and allows you to be angry at anyone popping your bubble, so when you suggest universal healthcare, you're suggesting to the comfiest people on earth that they ought to care about other people, who they already know are in agony. It's kings ignoring peasants, across half the country.
And the way it's a corrupting tool is really fascinating! Famous artists need hype trains built by massive investments in their image. They can occasionally start it themselves, but they can't continue it for decades without injections. The ones who reject the money machine say "Well, I can become an investor and fund myself!" and then they're making investments based on financial outlooks, trusted advice, DEFINITELY not morals and look where it takes them. No escape. We must return to Hipster.

Funny that the "family value" moralists and the "age of consent" creeps seem to be getting a lot of their goals accomplished working together. The "small government" crowd and the "corporate bailout crowd" are also working together. "America First" and "Protect Israel". It's almost like the villains found the power of "tolerating each other's bullshit" was way more effective than the "Power of Uncontested Values" we keep looking for.
How did they become the candidate? Keeping the democratic party up to snuff was a responsibility of voters as well, but the purity police of the 2000s kept a crop of leftists too afraid to shake hands with the establishment, and the Dems lost their fire. I remember the late Obama years when we were still in Iraq, still killing civilians, and still not putting bankers in jail and what would have been progressive candidates dropped out because moral purity was more important to them than praxis.
If anyone reads this and feels that non-voting was the right thing to do, I ask you to consider: the right thing to do was to join a radical leftist party and force the overton window over in spite of corporate money trying to keep it centered, a policy demonstrated to be extremely effective by none other than Trump. Non-voting is a lazy, secondary action for people ashamed to admit they didn't try to take primary action until it was too late. And it's liberal, individualist bullshit too.
Making money "from nothing" makes sense to capitalists and socialists alike. You can turn clay into dinner plates, and you can sell dinner plates for money, but if you only want money you won't make plates unless you're confident you can sell. That confidence in the sale can be bottled and sold by someone willing to risk owning a warehouse of un-sellable dinner plates. Or homes people aren't willing to buy. There's also a secret to make speculators sell, even at a loss...
I am a model railway guy. The amount of knowledge required to estimate the correct number of milk tank-cars in circulation in a theoretical small town takes weeks of research. That means it takes at least a year to understand just 50 commodities. It takes 10 years to understand 500. Frankly, capitalists have been very successful in convincing us that the world is simple and that it's our own fault for not understanding it. It's pyur ideeology.
That's why they need Trump. Supporting someone who lies all the time means you can pick and choose what they "really" said and what they "really" mean.
I had those exact same ideas about 15 years ago. Here's the time travel advice: the world is, like, so complicated you don't even KNOW. No one does. There is no version of the economy where one person can know how it works and whether it's fair and how obviously unfair it looks NOW is just a sign of how impossibly, overwhelmingly unfair it actually is. I could have phrased it better, but I'm sick of seeing "this should be illegal" when we're talking about congress. Congress decides what is and isn't illegal, and that's based on who's getting voted into it. There is no possible "law" that can fix congress, only a radically different culture that watches and judges and removes them from office. The culture we have in the U.S. is that a "proper system", the right mix of laws and enforcement, will fix everything in spite of the people in power.

It will never run so smoothly you can stop thinking about it. We make a lot of jokes about not being immune to propaganda, but have missed how the 80s and 90s were a culture dependent on jokes about inefficient, evil, boring government and now politicians count on voters not really caring about government at all.
