He was not an engineer of anything, always hated school and would refuse to understand why a formula would have X instead of a number in it. But he did tinker with a lot of stuff. Built a house, trailers, electrics and a bunch of everything. We still have years worth of firewood left from him and so on.
I'd have to take it apart to see what's direct off a trafo and what is DC.
I'm pretty sure there's just a hand wound big ol transformer in there. Dad didn't do fine stuff.
