Brock, or Takeshi in the Japanese version, was oldest of ten siblings. Both parents weren't around and he raised the family, thus earning a lot of domestic skills. This is him seeing his mom again for the first time in a while.

I'm sorry to hear it didn't go well. I had a friend who had a scheduled surgery, they opened her up, saw a much more extensive problem, and just closed her back up again. It sucks greatly when the plan doesn't go. I hope any complications get resolved safely and smooth.
