Tim was an overly aggressive idiot at time, and misunderstood the limits of his skill and abilities… but I’d say he’s still much better a user of tools than the current administration is at conducting a war.
So we have a choice… we can wallow in the shit he left for us, or we can pull ourselves out of it and do the work to resetting it all. After you get the bull out and clean up the mess, you can reorder the china to sell or you can take a look and see if you really want to be a china shop. While also putting guardrails into place to stop future bulls from getting into said china shop.

Chaos and a rerun of Turkey’s military coup to restore democracy and hand it back to the politicians to fuck up again. And those laws are brutal and unforgiving. That’s 1. The more important thing is: how do you designate Trump a domestic threat? Is this something you trust every servicemember to decide on their own? Article 88, contempt against officials, fits easier and explicitly states you can’t do this to the President and select upper level folks. There’s been a billion briefs on DoD instruction 1344.10 saying you can’t protest in uniform.so take your pick on UCMJ article for that. If the rule was forced upon him, I wouldn’t push back on the manner, but it wasn’t. I’m a former Army officer and I sympathize with him and other folks serving while disagreeing with policy. I did it too and it was hard. But the rules are what make you a professional; you don’t get to pick and choose and you definitely dont get to not adhere to rules when it’s convenient or easy. He chose to devote the last 17 years of his life to the service, so he should know exactly what’s gonna happen.

You’re the unit commander of an underfunded and understaffed company of folks who have about a 50% rate of Soldiers who can pass a PT test and actually qualify with their assigned weapon. You have a mandate to piss test them once a year, so you decided to start doing that after a shooting war starts….then you decide to actually go through with kicking them out and not using your authority to grant clemency and just take rank and some money instead of kicking them out
Marines are typically the ones that start the opening salvos of conflicts because they’re the ones sent in to secure beachheads. And the articles title is wrong. It’s 5000 marines and sailors… the marine element of that is roughly 2200. About half a brigade of army folks. During Iraq, there were roughly 140k folks deployed at any one time.
While I understand the fear, this is needlessly spreading it. These drones aren’t weapons, they’re civilian drones with thermal cameras. Cause the Army’s trying to learn the lessons of Ukraine and incorporate them into battle. And if these drones were modified to drop bombs like Ukraine did early in war, using them for false attack is dumb. You’d want to buy new version of the drone, modify it and then use it so it can’t be traced back to the government. The cure for fear is knowledge.
