The craziest thing about the show was that almost everyone on the cast was an objectively awful person to one degree or another (yes, even Crabman, the former assassin/operative), but were also somehow good people (yes, even Joy). Most were just really dumb and, for lack of a better term, misguided.
The Jesus in the bible obviously didn't, but a person (or possibly even persons) they latched onto and elevated to demigod status almost certainly did. He was probably even a pretty decent person for the most part, which is what drew the worshippers in.But that's all he was, a figurehead that others used gather worshippers (and later slaves).
