I just finished my first lamp recently. Humbling experience.
That is quite the find! The Larissa! The glass jewels and the rippled glass are 🔥Thank you for the picture!!!
Great find! It takes so much time to make one, always baffles me when I see gorgeous shades being thrown away or sold for a few dollars.

What you can do with glass is magical!
No, not really. There are some really sharp edges that would just tear it.

Start small and cheap- a few sheets of glass and basic tools to get a feel for it. Upgrade later, if you love it. Get a beginner’s kit from Amazon or hobby lobby, but try to find a glass grinder on marketplace or eBay first. Even the cutest kits will look bad if you don’t grind the glass before foiling. Grinder will be the most expensive tool to begin with, but it makes all the difference. Feel free to message me anytime with questions! I can talk about glass forever:)

If you treasure it, you need to occasionally polish it.
I will definitely look into it. All that texture and scalloped solder will be a pain with all the crevices. Good tip, thank you!

It does. Most foil is 1mm thick. With good burnishing, and if you leave some gaps between pieces- you should be good. If not you can grind some of the edges as you go to account for the foil. Another way is to use pattern shoers, but I like the way I do it, it works for me.
