Lamp finished. Becoming one with sticks. Brain empty.

This was a fun little project. Got the materials- a mold to build the lamp on, a base that can hold the weight of the shade and a pattern pack.

Those are called “Magic strips”- part of the Worden system. Applied on the form to help align pieces as I go.

Second copy of the pattern gets cut up. Those go on the actual glass to help cut and grind each piece to the correct shape.

Fit check with both patterns before the chaos begins.

Each lamp shade needs a vase cap. It gets attached to the top of the shade to be secured on the lamp base. This little one was hard to find.

Made of brass, eventually needs to be tinned so the patina will match the cap with the rest of the shade.

First cuts. The foam form helps tremendously by allowing the use of pins.

Some pieces lay flat in the center while the edges stick out. One way to combat this is to use brass wool in between mixed with flux. Basically a filler.

Love the colors here. Very wild flowers/forest vibes. (That’s what I was going for)

After foiling and soldering. Will have a light table/board for the next one. After being illuminated, colors are brighter and more on the pink side that I wanted to. The light table to check color would have eliminated picking the wrong color glass.

And then I went hiking!:)
This is the Keg Creek loop. Very pretty. Didn’t meet a single soul the whole trip.

This was at the F.A.T.S. Awesome set of trails for hiking or mountain biking. Still lots of trees down from Helene, but people are actively working on reopening some of the trails.

Another gem of a place- The Savanah river/ canal in Augusta, Ga. Unbelievable views.

We even found a few geocaches. Quite fun to track down. If you are into that type of “adventures” bring a pen to sign/date the log and if you plan on taking something from the cache (trackers are a thing), always leave something in return for the next person.

Next on the to do list- kayaking!
