Everyone at my friend's company has been without health insurance coverage for over three weeks because Blue Cross Blue Shield fucked up their payment records
Assuming BCBS ever fixes their mistake and restores coverage, do you think they'll pay back the premium for the month of benefits they didn't provide?
And if they do, they certainly aren't going to compensate the employees who were forced to buy prescriptions out of pocket and whose families haven't been able to afford to see a doctor for a month.
They are parasites, whose greed causes incalculable harm to our society. I don't know what the solution is, but something has to change.

Rite aid got sued about this once. They stopped paying the insurance company that the Union negotiated, then tried passing off their own inferior insurance in it's place. Rite Aid dragged there feet claiming the union wasn't paying their dues and that's why they lost the insurance, but the court judge ordered them to start paying after 2 years.
Every aspect of our health insurance industry is fucked, and it's because it's an industry, the key word on why it sucks.

Work at one of the two largest hospitals in the entire state of Montana where we are one of the only two options to get more advanced care without going to Denver or Salt Lake City and we are a hot second away from not being able to accept BCBS insurance anymore. Negotiations have been ongoing for months and months. FUCK ALL INSURANCE COMPANIES! and our entire healthcare system. We are crumbling people!

My daughter was forced to change health ins plans at her place of employment. She did her due diligence to make sure the medication her son was on (Humira) was covered and selected BCBS. Three weeks into the new year she still had no proof of insurance. It finally came the day before she got the letter that they would no longer cover Humira as of the first of the year.

My boss was informed she could no longer receive coverage at Sutter Health because she's in a health group that doesn't seem to exist even though insurance has been paying for everything up until literally today. She also has Blue Shield. All of my coworkers with blue shield have ended up fighting insurance or getting double billed.
Is Blue Shield a part of UHC? I'm just sayin.

A reminder that these companies are beholden to your state's DOI (dept of insurance), which is a consumer protection agency (for now), and has no problem fucking up/fining insurance companies.
If this is a mistake on BCBS's part, and not your employer, then they need to enlist the DOI's assistance by filing a formal complaint (this legally mandates response times etc...).

They’ve been denying my little sister treatment for different things and recently sent us a letter saying she’s losing her coverage despite not being 21 yet. She just turned 19 and has been receiving in patient treatment for different things the last month and she’s really happy with her progress. They wanted to say that despite her medical history etc she wasn’t considered eligible for treatment and they wouldn’t cover it. We’ve used them our whole lives never having these issues before…

As someone who worked in this industry until about 2 years ago yes, they will backdate the policy back to 1/1/25. Yes, they will also re-process any physicians or hospital claims that were submitted at that time. HOWEVER, they will not do it automatically. Employees will likely have to call them to get it done. Also, the RXs that were filled will likely have to be claimed manually, which can be a huge pain in the ass. Stuff like this happens, and there's processes in place for it. 1/2

That said, it's all utter bullshit. They'll stall as long as possible to keep the money in their accounts as long as possible. Those RX claims will likely have a fair amount of hurdles and those poor folks will have to fight to get them paid. BCBS is one of the better ones, but that bar is still low enough to be in the fucking sewer.

Your friend should save all evidence of anything paid out of pocket and also have the pharmacy make calls to the pharmacy line and document anything so there is evidence about lack of coverage during this time if at the pharmacy. The insurance company should reimburse for anything paid out-of-pocket. However, it’s very unusual that the employer did not notice the check for the insurance premiums going out of their account… Do they hand write checks? That would be a very small company doing that

It is more likely that their company would be using some sort of accounting software linked to a bank account so there is recourse to trace any sort of payment going out the door to the insurance company… It’s peculiar that they are not doing some kind of funds transfer And still sending a manual check. While I don’t no more about your friends company, I advise them to treat this as a red flag and be very cognizant of anything else that feels off when it comes to…
