My merlin app said the bird I was hearing was an orange-crowned warbler. I'd never heard of it before. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EVSJoL-oS3I Sounded like 30 seconds into this vid

About 1/3 of those birds I have heard.

Grey Peacock Pheasant. Never seen one. Very cool.

Sheet Jesus in a birchbark canoe! That’s what a gull sounds like?!

1 year ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Yes. Now imagine that times 100 and you have an average summer's day at the beach.

1 year ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Once heard an urban Mockingbird do an entire car alarm sequence without a single mistake, and then repeat it.
Not something you’d hear in the wild jungle of the Amazon Forest.

Didn’t know Dot matrix printers were a descendant of the Toucan

1 year ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

of course the Aussie bird sounds like a fucking lion

1 year ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Australian Bustard's voice is still the same as when it's ancestors were dinosaurs.

1 year ago | Likes 14 Dislikes 0

I know seagulls. Annoying fuckers

1 year ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

Yup. They will 100% poke you in the coconut.

1 year ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

I haven't heard most of them before.

Those are some neat birds

"Bird sounds you probably never heard before, like a seagull, or a starling, or a magpie." Dafuq? Does OP think we're living in a cave?

1 year ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Damn, Alan Tudyk is talented.

1 year ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Oh yeah, I remember the Australian Magpie, this sampling does not truly reflect the beautiful song that they can come out with. Never heard anything like it before and if I had been a bit more experienced with my cell, I might have got a recording of one bird's song, if my cell even had a recorder on it in 2000. But if you get to the Daintree Rainforest, you don't have to worry until you hear a cassowary's song, then run like fuck and hope you make it.

1 year ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

They're all good birbs, Bront

1 year ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

I actually have heard the Australian Magpie; on the BigStackD YouTube channel. He's a metal recycler that disassembles scrap & melts it into gorgeous bars. Even tells you how much each melt is worth.

Plus there's usually at least 30 seconds of his dogs. 🥰

I love that I have magpies singing to me every morning and night, and kookaburras and Rosellas. Then the cockies come flying in just fucking "leeeeeeroy jenkinnnnns" with its dinosaur noises

1 year ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

Rosellas are the best! They make the cutest noises, and they go nuts in the birdbath, water everywhere. I love them so much. Maggies too of course, such pretty song and funny personalities.

1 year ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Rosellas are very dumb though. I used to have tame king parrots around but haven't seen them since last winter, a bit worried Mr shooty mcgun up the road has gotten to them. He likes shooting at birds, which means most of the birds around here take a lot of work to tame. Even after 2 years of hand feeding the magpies don't fully trust me

#1 thick knees? Who mames these things

1 year ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

*black vulture noises intensify* https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=18C8M_dSg4M

1 year ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Some of them could (should?) be mixed together as a techno track

1 year ago | Likes 26 Dislikes 0

We need that bloke with the small round sunglasses. You know the one.

1 year ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

good ol' kookaburra https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ti9af-N5aJE

WHO HAS NEVER HEARD A GULL?

1 year ago | Likes 21 Dislikes 0

Rural country far from the ocean, and too poor to travel. I probably didn't hear a gull in person until I was in college.

1 year ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

That must've been a weird class. Hope you passed.

1 year ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

i moved from ireland to western australia, their seagulls sound like crows

1 year ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

I assume people in places where there's not a nearby large body of water.... Or a garbage dump.

1 year ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 1

I have seen seagulls at dumps in the middle of MT. No idea how they found it or how they survive the winters.

1 year ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Some of those gave me dial up 56 kbps modem flash backs.

1 year ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Needs more Awebo

1 year ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

starlings have an amazing array of sounds even though I am not a fan I like the sounds.

1 year ago | Likes 46 Dislikes 0

They’re very good mimics!

1 year ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

A family member of mine raised one that fell out of an unknown nest, it had these white tufts on either side of its head as a baby so they named him Gustav. It heard it so much that it would say GUUUUStav, GUUUUStav. Also "Ew yuck," whenever a cat walked by.

1 year ago | Likes 15 Dislikes 0

1 year ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 0

impressive

1 year ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

They pick up car alarm noises and setting bleeps real quick, and also phone bells from extension speakers, like might be mounted external to a portacabin site office.

1 year ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 0

we've got a family that mimics distressed kittens. We guess one of them picked up the sound and the others picked it up from them. Took us a couple of years to figure out what bird was making the sound.

1 year ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

yup - had one that mimicked my old motorola phone ringtone. Little bugger had all kinds of fun driving me up the wall that summer.

1 year ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 0

Who the fuck hasn't heard a gull before? Those bastards are all over the place, including hell, where they spawned from. Yeah yeah, I know, "username does not check out". Gulls are bastards though, fight me.

1 year ago | Likes 646 Dislikes 3

funnily enough...not australians, i moved from Ireland to western australia and the seagulls sound like crows

1 year ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

one time a huge seagull was harrassing me while i prepped a really biiig bass, so i threw him the whole skin and tail as one piece and he somehow horked the whole thing down in one go. but then he was too full to fly and flopped off like an idiot while we all laughed.

1 year ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I agree that gulls are bastards. That being said, I was very happy to see a gull chowing down on the innards of a pigeon.

1 year ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Gulls are perks, didn't have them in Kansas but I am at their mercy here in Alaska

1 year ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

They're giant rats that need to be exorcised back to the fiery pit.

1 year ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 1

I know what it is to sit on a bench at the boardwalk, staring into the eager eyes of a seagull and conveying with my gaze that any move to seize the Polish dog from my hand will spark a struggle of epic proportions, a battle to the death and possibly beyond.

1 year ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

"Got any chips m8?" Fuck gulls

1 year ago | Likes 11 Dislikes 0

Starlings are also bastards. Noisy, messy, destructive invasive species here in North America. Fuck starlings.

1 year ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

It's there so people will comment about how common it is and drive up engagement

1 year ago | Likes 12 Dislikes 1

1 year ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

gulls and yellojackets stem from the same place in hell

1 year ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I thought that at first, and then I guessed it was some basic "let's create easy engagement on my social profile"

1 year ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I mean, it's a social media site.

1 year ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Oh they will

1 year ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Shit-hawks

1 year ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Indeed, Randy.

1 year ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I had a seagull steal a fish right out of my hands while I was fileting it. Asshole stole my dinner.

1 year ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Fuck yeah they’re bastards. The proof is in the netting in the garage I park at.
One oidgrin had rhe misforune of getting caught in the netting (to keep birds out), gulls immediately pounced and tore it limb from limb.. It’s disturbing to now see a headless, gutless pigeon just hanging there amid a flurry of feathers and a lot of bloodstains.
Those same gulls will also demolish any and all trashbag they run into. Bastards, all of them.

1 year ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

No argument there. Obligatory:

1 year ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

"including hell, where they spawned from" made me laugh out loud ahaahahahahaha well put

1 year ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

I live in southern Ohio, and my town is literally named after gulls. They are in fact everywhere

1 year ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

They look quite majestic when following them in flight through some binoculars

1 year ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Sure. But when you spend your workday fending them off, but they keep coming back, again and again and again, and there's 15,000 of them, you start to feel different.

1 year ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Many landlocked places maybe haven't heard it l. I'll also submit that movies and TV replace a lot of nature sounds, so people never hear the actual sound.

Lions and eagles are a good example. Lion roars are often actually tiger noises. Eagle sounds are frequently replaced for hawk calls.

1 year ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

It’s called engagement bait, it worked

1 year ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Yes! A round of points for me and my friends!

1 year ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Ahh Seagulls, there was a time in the Early Internet I'd convinced a bunch of American's that they were the National Bird of Canada, except we gave them a more 'deserving name' The Great White North American Shit Hawk! For a time I considered that NO ONE is that dumb, and they were probably trolling me... But the last few years.... I'd say I have a fifty-fifty shot that for the last 23 years a handful of American Idiots have been telling their friends the fun fact, about Canada's National Bird.

1 year ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

That's because you haven't harnessed them as minions for shenanigans.

1 year ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I think we take for granted that we live or have traveled somewhere with gulls. There are many places that have none (like central America inlands). Land Gulls are different from Sea Gulls.

For your consideration

Gulls is gulls. Seagulls is bad nomenclature. They're all gulls, and they're all bastards. I do like Bonaparte gulls though. They're the only ones that nest in trees. I'll read your links later, thank you.

1 year ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

When I saw an inland "common" gull (Larus canus) for the first time, I was so confused, they were not even half as big as what I, from the Baltic coast, think of as a "normal" gull (European herring gull, Larus argentatus). It's like rats and mice, hares and rabbits - they look the same until you get close and then one is just so tiny? If a real gull steals your fish sandwich out of your hand you feel lucky you still have a hand after.

1 year ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Gull Dukat disagrees... but then again, he would.

1 year ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I was raised to admire Seagulls (Utah's state bird....they supposedly saved the settlers from locust/grasshoppers who were eating the scarce crops) until I saw one land on the back of some other waterfowl and literally peck the internals out from between the poor thing's shoulder blades while still alive. It scarred me for life🖕🏻

1 year ago | Likes 17 Dislikes 0

Yeah, they are good at surviving.

1 year ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Especially considering they're SEAgulls living in a landlocked state

1 year ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

It's good to raise kids to admire wildlife in general. Then let be scarred and form their own opinions later.

1 year ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 0

I love the cries of seagulls, reminds me of good times at beaches. But, they have stolen my fries.

1 year ago | Likes 39 Dislikes 1

Do you live away from the ocean? Here, they start screeching at 5am every day from March to October.

1 year ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Yeah I hate seagulls almost as much as I hate pandas.

1 year ago | Likes 14 Dislikes 2

Wh....why would you hate pandas? They're just dumb fluff cuddlers

1 year ago | Likes 12 Dislikes 1

because the resources needed to save one species could go towards so many others that have a better chance of surviving but they made the panda the fucking symbol of the WWF so there is no way they can let them go extinct.

1 year ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 4

You're sort of missing the point...

1 year ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 3

Funny you should bring up money. Pandas actually bring in way more money than they need, and the excess goes to helping species that don't make cute plushies for kids to play with.

1 year ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 2

I think they're just very worthless creatures. Imagine a bear that goes vegan and decides to eat the worst shit in the woods, bambu. And they have to eat so much of it that they don't even fuck.

A gull once stole my pizza. I will join this war.

A gull cut my finger open to get the fries I was holding for them. SMH

A gull once bit my sister
