Standard American ceilings are 8 foot from the floor. A ceiling fan is usually a foot lower than that.
I know this because I'm 6'2 and have fed more shirts than I'd like into ceiling fans.
I even picked up a toddler and fed his little skull into a ceiling fan one time.
