Honestly at this point if the only thing they care about is gas kys and get out of my way i want a better future and your gas prices mean nothing if you've got nowhere to go and nothing to do because everything is cars now.
I get the sentiment, but that's going to hurt millions of low-income individuals throughout Asia much more than the US. Destroyed infrastructure there is going to mean less fertilizer which is gonna translate to lower crop yields, which is gonna mean poor folks going hungry/starving to death. Fossil fuel infrastructure is about so much more than gasoline...
Maybe it's time for humanity to go extinct. The billionaires and trillionaire have extracted all the wealth they can from the 8+ billion people alive today. Now they can try to figure out how to survive without us.
see the problem is some people are just vindictive. it's honestly like the magats just from the other side. doesn't matter the damage it will do, just so long as they can go: "hah! that'll show you!" *sticks thumbs in ears and sticks out tongue* NYAH NYAH NYAH NYAH NYAH NYAH"
Honestly, I think it's just a result of a lack of knowledge and education, not malice. Many people seem to assume that oil/gas is just for powering cars and have no conception of how insanely complex and interconnected the global energy/materials system is...
Yup. It's really depressing how little most people know about where their shit comes from, how it's made, and the incredibly complex network of energy and materials systems that are required to do it.
I mostly agree with the sentiment/assessment. However, my concern in this specific use-case is precisely that the pain of destroying this infrastructure will not primarily be a pain to those in this thread advocating it (Americans), but to those already most vulnerable and least culpable. Hoping for the destruction of infrastructure central to fertilizer, and thus food production, for much of Asia/Africa just to increase gas prices in the hope of driving out the GOP is beyond self-entitled.
Which just about everyone dumb enough to upvote the "destroy all the infrastructure" comment is doing. Most, I assume, out of ignorance and not malicious self-entitlement, but based on some of my interactions today, it's definitely the latter for some.
How about you economically collapse your own ballsack, leave the rest of the world out of it. Americans are fucking dumb talking about destroy all the oil infrastructure, without considering the ramifications on the rest of us.
Thank you. At least someone on this fucking dumpster fire of a thread gets it. The level of American entitlement, self absorption and straight-up ignorance of material/energy systems on display here is fucking absurd (and I say that as an American...)
You willing to accept that if that pain means the world's poorest suffering the worst impacts? Top comment is essentially advocating (though I believe unintentionally) for starving significant populations of the poorest in Africa and Asia via infrastructure destruction. I get the sentiment, but it's obscenely self-centered, as if gas prices in the US are the world's most pressing issue and that hurting the GOP is worth fucking over those that, historically, have always fucked the hardest.
I get that, I really do, but I do have to question how many of those vociferously advocating for the "rip off the band aid" approach will actually *suffer*. High gas prices is one thing, starvation due to crop losses from a lack of fertilizer is an entirely different thing.
the only way for the US to change for the better is a large econmic collapse to happen. the US voter base is ignorant and very self centered they will only vote for policies that would genuinely help everyone when everyone is facing hardship. A large ecnomic collapse will affect the world. there is no getting around that.
I don't necessarily disagree in principle, but you kind of ignored my main question. If said collapse is largely triggered via oil/gas infrastructure loss (as the commenter you were responding favorably to advocated), which *will* lead to starvation in the poorest parts of the world, is that a cost you're willing to accept?
The slow collapse has already led to aid being pulled from many countries and millions dead. Hastening the collapse so that renewal can begin will put that aid in the hands of those needing it again.
The accelerationist view point is that things will get worse slowly, and the poorest, most disadvantaged will still die, but the slower process allows the institutions to solidify their power and for people to accept the new status quo. By accelerating, it causes people to react and oppose the institutions oppressing them.
There's obvious criticisms of this philosophy. At the same time, the bad stuff has led to a rise in opposition to Trump's regime and capitalism in general. 1/2
Yeah, I'm not completely opposed to that general line of thinking and I can see the logic. But in all honesty it reeks of privilege. It's easy to brush off the deaths of the world's poor to "work towards something better" if you're not one of them.
New York just elected a Socialist who is proving to people that socialists can make things better quickly rather than make excuses like the corporate Democrats. A continuous, unrelenting fight to make things better is ideal, but to be honest, I wonder of accelerationism is actually the only way things actually change. Not saying it's good, just that it's become harder to ignore.
Not to mention making renewable energy a thing. The only way this will happen is pain for those who do not. So please, send the price of gas to the skies.
and just so happens the adminstation is making it easier for new nuclear power plants to be built and investing billions to speed up the process of building 10 nuclear plants currently being built
I know, it's weird. Nukes are among the greatest things for the planet, I swear if Trump turns out to be the one that takes us into a clean new future I *will* vomit.
unironically he has already laid the ground for nuclear industry revitalisation as well with data centers (which no one wants) popping up everywhere there is now a massive need for more energy. It starting to look like that might happen
Except take for example Indonesia. They supply about 50% of the world's nickel (key for batteries), and they depend on Sulfur for nickel extraction, 75% of which they get via Middle East Oil/Gas infrastructure and the Strait.
*Destroy* the infrastructure there and you lose more than 20% of the world's oil/gas. You lose a significant source of: sulfur, helium, feedstocks for fertilizer, etc. That sulfur is also a key ingredient for copper mining, necessary for RE electrification...
And sand, oh my lord, which is used for egg timers on Trivial Pursuit games. Think of the losses there!
Point taken however things could be arranged that we use remaining oil and gas stocks for important things, not just burning to make an SUV go. Use it for aircraft, where the energy density is really needed.
Funny enough (though not really) there is a global sand shortage that's leading to some severe ecological disruption. There's even a black market for it.
Interesting. I remember this being a massive concern in the late 1980's as large screen TV's were using incredible amounts of sand (glass use goes up geometrically cubed, not linearally
Totally agree RE: more sane use of oil/gas stocks, and moving away from the US's obsession with inefficient big vehicles so little boys can feel like they're big boys.
I just really disagree with the top comment advocating for destroying infrastructure. That will lead to starvation of the the world's poorest in Africa and Asia from fertilizer shortages. I'm not willing to accept that just to "stick it to the GOP."
Ok, I can get that, fair point. It's just sad as hell that we have done education on renewables, tax credits, and all sorts of carrots to get people to move and it seems the only thing that will work is serious amounts of pain.
the average american voter is border line mentally disabled. If gas prices go up, they vote against whatever party is in control. Regardless of the reason why. Its been a constant for decades.
Sadly, this is true. If people can mentally gloss over how many people have actually DIED due to his actions (or there lack of), incompetence, maliciousness, vindictiveness, etc., then another dollar per gallon for gasoline is not going to change much.
In fairness, that's what old people do. They die. It's expected. Suddenly paying triple for a tank of gas is unexpected. It's the frog in a pot scenario.
I think democracy is great and all, but having everyone allowed to vote make it a easy target for people like trump to manipulate the dumb people, maybe a simple iq test to be allowed to vote would help prevent lunatic from controlling moron into driving the country off a cliff, or make extremely severe law against lying in public position or trying to manipulate people.
Just another layer for the fascists to take over and twist however they want.
I do think politicians should be held liable for lying. I'd like to see a whole separate branch of the judiciary just for that, where citizens can file complaints, make some prima facie showing of likelihood of winning, and then have a mini-trial about it. If the citizen wins, the politician has to reimburse them for their court fees, or have their vote suspended.
Real life is not D&D. There's no universal, objective intelligence score for a human being. There's no single, objective definition of intelligence. The tests are designed by humans, and the things they are measuring and the way they are measuring it are largely arbitrary. A bunch of white people who thought of themselves as smart chose a bunch of skills that they happened to be good at, and measure those things. The biggest giveaway is that you can practice an IQ test to improve your score.
You may only be used to mathematical and spatial IQ tests. A complete IQ test includes questions that require cultural context that you probably don't even notice, but are heavily skewed toward the "majority," as well as specific factual knowledge that makes the score basically scale with the quality of school the test subject went to.
I fully believe that people who refused to mask up during Covid lost some higher brain function. Over the last several years, I've seen some of my friends and family turn into Fox News type zombies that refuse to even engage with me on an intellectual level. They just get flustered and shut down. It's been really sad and frustrating for me.
While there definitely is some credible evidence of long-term brain damage from even mild COVID infections, sadly, the braindead Fox News zombie thing has always existed. I lost family to it before COVID, exactly as you describe. It's a propaganda source designed to get people to shut off their higher brain functions and just repeat what they're told and for all of Murdock's many MANY faults, he was damn good at making it work. Garbage-in garbage out has always been a problem. :(
I find it weird how online speech keeps getting censored. I always roll my eyes when a YouTuber mutes the word "fuck", or says something like "unalive himself".
YouTube is owned by Google. A private company. YouTube community standards violations will see channels demonetized. Once again stupid people blame YouTubers rather than the evil empire. All in a thread insulting people’s intelligence. Good times.
incredibly. espcially knowing the etymology and how the word is used. its not at all typical slur directed at a communtiy. Medical term that people used to describe other people who do something so incredibly dumb you have to speculate on thier mental faculties

I wouldn't say it's the only way
Idkillpickanamelater
then you have too make faith in the american voter
ProfessorMuChao
I get the sentiment, but that's going to hurt millions of low-income individuals throughout Asia much more than the US. Destroyed infrastructure there is going to mean less fertilizer which is gonna translate to lower crop yields, which is gonna mean poor folks going hungry/starving to death. Fossil fuel infrastructure is about so much more than gasoline...
OtterlyMagnificent
Maybe it's time for humanity to go extinct. The billionaires and trillionaire have extracted all the wealth they can from the 8+ billion people alive today. Now they can try to figure out how to survive without us.

lol, who downvotes sources of information?
BeachsideBarghest
Those whose viewpoint is eroded by facts.
Whitebeardthepirate
see the problem is some people are just vindictive. it's honestly like the magats just from the other side. doesn't matter the damage it will do, just so long as they can go: "hah! that'll show you!" *sticks thumbs in ears and sticks out tongue* NYAH NYAH NYAH NYAH NYAH NYAH"
ProfessorMuChao
Honestly, I think it's just a result of a lack of knowledge and education, not malice. Many people seem to assume that oil/gas is just for powering cars and have no conception of how insanely complex and interconnected the global energy/materials system is...
Whitebeardthepirate
you are right, ignorance is a massive part of it
hellsgunslinger
Most people dont understand the trickle down effects of something like that. Its pretty bad when you get right down to it
ProfessorMuChao
Yup. It's really depressing how little most people know about where their shit comes from, how it's made, and the incredibly complex network of energy and materials systems that are required to do it.
Noahbalboa82
Yes, but it's unfortunate that is likely the only way we will learn. Through causing a lot of pain to ourselves
ProfessorMuChao
I mostly agree with the sentiment/assessment. However, my concern in this specific use-case is precisely that the pain of destroying this infrastructure will not primarily be a pain to those in this thread advocating it (Americans), but to those already most vulnerable and least culpable. Hoping for the destruction of infrastructure central to fertilizer, and thus food production, for much of Asia/Africa just to increase gas prices in the hope of driving out the GOP is beyond self-entitled.
Noahbalboa82
That's a very fair point
kingbudo101
honestly yeah, start an econmic collapse. Need a reset. nothing can get better till there is pain and people willing to act from the pain.
somethingstupidandclever
Guess im getting that AR and hoop tent after all. :(
ChiefRunningFridge
Sounds like a neat idea. If you just ignore all the human suffering and death.
ProfessorMuChao
Which just about everyone dumb enough to upvote the "destroy all the infrastructure" comment is doing. Most, I assume, out of ignorance and not malicious self-entitlement, but based on some of my interactions today, it's definitely the latter for some.
Dybidude5
Americans need to set the world on fire to learn basic life lessons...
AMoldyStump
How about you economically collapse your own ballsack, leave the rest of the world out of it. Americans are fucking dumb talking about destroy all the oil infrastructure, without considering the ramifications on the rest of us.
kingbudo101
There is no economic collapse that would just affact the US and not the rest of the world with how globalized everything thing is. Its all or nothing
AMoldyStump
Right, so why would you even humor a solution to your own self made problem that just makes everything worse for everyone else.
American self entitlement is a fucking disease and needs to go.
ProfessorMuChao
Thank you. At least someone on this fucking dumpster fire of a thread gets it. The level of American entitlement, self absorption and straight-up ignorance of material/energy systems on display here is fucking absurd (and I say that as an American...)
Epicentr
Central American or South American? Oh, the entitled North American.
ProfessorMuChao
Good point, I should have probably said 'Muricans to better clarify, lol.
ProfessorMuChao
You willing to accept that if that pain means the world's poorest suffering the worst impacts? Top comment is essentially advocating (though I believe unintentionally) for starving significant populations of the poorest in Africa and Asia via infrastructure destruction. I get the sentiment, but it's obscenely self-centered, as if gas prices in the US are the world's most pressing issue and that hurting the GOP is worth fucking over those that, historically, have always fucked the hardest.
frozenlake247
Unfortunately, it seems like a frying pan/fire or frog in a pot situation. Either way the poorest are suffering the worst impacts.
The only real question seems to be…
A. Keep going on this path and watch an ever growing PERCENTAGE the population is ground into paste via wage (or literal) slavery to enrich the top.
B. Jump the track, take the suffering up front and try to find a better way forward.
Either way the poorest will suffer most; but one has hope of that suffering decreasing.
ProfessorMuChao
I get that, I really do, but I do have to question how many of those vociferously advocating for the "rip off the band aid" approach will actually *suffer*. High gas prices is one thing, starvation due to crop losses from a lack of fertilizer is an entirely different thing.
kingbudo101
the only way for the US to change for the better is a large econmic collapse to happen. the US voter base is ignorant and very self centered they will only vote for policies that would genuinely help everyone when everyone is facing hardship. A large ecnomic collapse will affect the world. there is no getting around that.
ProfessorMuChao
I don't necessarily disagree in principle, but you kind of ignored my main question. If said collapse is largely triggered via oil/gas infrastructure loss (as the commenter you were responding favorably to advocated), which *will* lead to starvation in the poorest parts of the world, is that a cost you're willing to accept?
indomara
The slow collapse has already led to aid being pulled from many countries and millions dead. Hastening the collapse so that renewal can begin will put that aid in the hands of those needing it again.
skysailor93
The accelerationist view point is that things will get worse slowly, and the poorest, most disadvantaged will still die, but the slower process allows the institutions to solidify their power and for people to accept the new status quo. By accelerating, it causes people to react and oppose the institutions oppressing them.
There's obvious criticisms of this philosophy. At the same time, the bad stuff has led to a rise in opposition to Trump's regime and capitalism in general. 1/2
ProfessorMuChao
Yeah, I'm not completely opposed to that general line of thinking and I can see the logic. But in all honesty it reeks of privilege. It's easy to brush off the deaths of the world's poor to "work towards something better" if you're not one of them.
skysailor93
Very easy. I often see arm chair theorists arguing for it.
At least show that you're willing to get on the front line and risk your life if you're going to argue for it.
skysailor93
New York just elected a Socialist who is proving to people that socialists can make things better quickly rather than make excuses like the corporate Democrats. A continuous, unrelenting fight to make things better is ideal, but to be honest, I wonder of accelerationism is actually the only way things actually change. Not saying it's good, just that it's become harder to ignore.
lightfoot2
Not to mention making renewable energy a thing. The only way this will happen is pain for those who do not. So please, send the price of gas to the skies.
kingbudo101
and just so happens the adminstation is making it easier for new nuclear power plants to be built and investing billions to speed up the process of building 10 nuclear plants currently being built
lightfoot2
I know, it's weird. Nukes are among the greatest things for the planet, I swear if Trump turns out to be the one that takes us into a clean new future I *will* vomit.
kingbudo101
unironically he has already laid the ground for nuclear industry revitalisation as well with data centers (which no one wants) popping up everywhere there is now a massive need for more energy. It starting to look like that might happen
ProfessorMuChao
Except take for example Indonesia. They supply about 50% of the world's nickel (key for batteries), and they depend on Sulfur for nickel extraction, 75% of which they get via Middle East Oil/Gas infrastructure and the Strait.
*Destroy* the infrastructure there and you lose more than 20% of the world's oil/gas. You lose a significant source of: sulfur, helium, feedstocks for fertilizer, etc. That sulfur is also a key ingredient for copper mining, necessary for RE electrification...
ProfessorMuChao

lightfoot2
And sand, oh my lord, which is used for egg timers on Trivial Pursuit games. Think of the losses there!
Point taken however things could be arranged that we use remaining oil and gas stocks for important things, not just burning to make an SUV go. Use it for aircraft, where the energy density is really needed.
ProfessorMuChao
Funny enough (though not really) there is a global sand shortage that's leading to some severe ecological disruption. There's even a black market for it.

lightfoot2
Interesting. I remember this being a massive concern in the late 1980's as large screen TV's were using incredible amounts of sand (glass use goes up geometrically cubed, not linearally
ProfessorMuChao
Totally agree RE: more sane use of oil/gas stocks, and moving away from the US's obsession with inefficient big vehicles so little boys can feel like they're big boys.
I just really disagree with the top comment advocating for destroying infrastructure. That will lead to starvation of the the world's poorest in Africa and Asia from fertilizer shortages. I'm not willing to accept that just to "stick it to the GOP."
lightfoot2
Ok, I can get that, fair point. It's just sad as hell that we have done education on renewables, tax credits, and all sorts of carrots to get people to move and it seems the only thing that will work is serious amounts of pain.
*sigh* And so it is it seems.
somethingcleverlol
the average american voter is border line mentally disabled. If gas prices go up, they vote against whatever party is in control. Regardless of the reason why. Its been a constant for decades.

Clever use of ableists slurs!
crazyspelling
It's even better than inventing migrant caravans!
stayingalive4life
Sadly, this is true. If people can mentally gloss over how many people have actually DIED due to his actions (or there lack of), incompetence, maliciousness, vindictiveness, etc., then another dollar per gallon for gasoline is not going to change much.
somethingcleverlol
Its because gas affects them directily. They dont care who dies, but if they are paying more for gas, then they will very much care
stayingalive4life
Yep, who care if gran-ma-ma Mary died a horrible agonizing death due to Covid when they can continue keeping the bigotry alive.
HarryDresdenIsMySpiritAnimal
In fairness, that's what old people do. They die. It's expected. Suddenly paying triple for a tank of gas is unexpected. It's the frog in a pot scenario.
jtxyz
Borderline?
You are way more forgiving of them than I am, my friend.
KosmsLabyrinth
Actually no, the system is just corrupt to give the mentally disabled voters the same voting power as the throngs of mentally sane voters.
livingonagiantfireball
I think democracy is great and all, but having everyone allowed to vote make it a easy target for people like trump to manipulate the dumb people, maybe a simple iq test to be allowed to vote would help prevent lunatic from controlling moron into driving the country off a cliff, or make extremely severe law against lying in public position or trying to manipulate people.
crazyspelling
Just another layer for the fascists to take over and twist however they want.
I do think politicians should be held liable for lying. I'd like to see a whole separate branch of the judiciary just for that, where citizens can file complaints, make some prima facie showing of likelihood of winning, and then have a mini-trial about it. If the citizen wins, the politician has to reimburse them for their court fees, or have their vote suspended.
ExaDeuce
IQ tests are dumb and racist though, so that's a hurdle.
livingonagiantfireball
? Can you explain why iq test are racist?
TexMexHex
... testing someone's intellectual quotient is.....racist? What the fuck?
ExaDeuce
Real life is not D&D. There's no universal, objective intelligence score for a human being. There's no single, objective definition of intelligence. The tests are designed by humans, and the things they are measuring and the way they are measuring it are largely arbitrary. A bunch of white people who thought of themselves as smart chose a bunch of skills that they happened to be good at, and measure those things. The biggest giveaway is that you can practice an IQ test to improve your score.
crazyspelling
You may only be used to mathematical and spatial IQ tests. A complete IQ test includes questions that require cultural context that you probably don't even notice, but are heavily skewed toward the "majority," as well as specific factual knowledge that makes the score basically scale with the quality of school the test subject went to.

ah the a no no word imgur doesnt like. Wish you good luck

Jarjarthejedi
While there definitely is some credible evidence of long-term brain damage from even mild COVID infections, sadly, the braindead Fox News zombie thing has always existed. I lost family to it before COVID, exactly as you describe. It's a propaganda source designed to get people to shut off their higher brain functions and just repeat what they're told and for all of Murdock's many MANY faults, he was damn good at making it work. Garbage-in garbage out has always been a problem. :(
somethingcleverlol
I would have said that, but imgur community doesnt like that word and your comment might get deleted soon.
lightfoot2
I use the word fucktard these days.
somethingcleverlol
i get a commented deleted and a warning one time use that. So I use disabled or mentally disabled
camn333
I find it weird how online speech keeps getting censored. I always roll my eyes when a YouTuber mutes the word "fuck", or says something like "unalive himself".
It's so dumb...
Eyeetsass
YouTube is owned by Google. A private company. YouTube community standards violations will see channels demonetized. Once again stupid people blame YouTubers rather than the evil empire. All in a thread insulting people’s intelligence. Good times.
somethingcleverlol
incredibly. espcially knowing the etymology and how the word is used. its not at all typical slur directed at a communtiy. Medical term that people used to describe other people who do something so incredibly dumb you have to speculate on thier mental faculties
