Charlie looks like he is tired of your shit. I don't know how he does, or if he is even a he, but he definitely is.

11 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

What variety of flytrap is this?

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I was wondering that too. It has a very long and narrow petiole that I'm not to familiar with. I take care of a CP garden btws.

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I laughed harder than I should have...

Fun face: Venus flytraps are only found in one tiny area of the world in the US.

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Lmfao. That is hillarious, but in all seriousness I hope he rewards it with flies for every trick.

11 years ago | Likes 77 Dislikes 1

..Reward it? It's a plant. It doesn't have feelings. They're 2 bucks at the hardware store, get a new one.

11 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 16

It feels very 'Office-y' to me for some reason.... and I've never watched the show.

Aubrey III.

11 years ago | Likes 19 Dislikes 2

Wasn't it Audrey?

11 years ago | Likes 20 Dislikes 0

The third because opening and closing it for laughs without feeding it. They die super quick, and people replace them like fish

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 3

I think it's the third because I and II were in Little Shop of Horrors. (Audrey II was also a plant that craved meat).

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Yep. Such a great movie.

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Correct me if i'm wrong, but don't these plants have a limited use of it's trap due to the amount of energy it takes?

11 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

You are correct in that the trap can only be used a limited amount of times. Sundews are so much more fun.

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

"What is that? I wonder what he..HAHAHAHAHAHA"

11 years ago | Likes 46 Dislikes 3

That flytrap is so triggered right now.

11 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 0

Killing the plant was totally worth it to make this video

As funny as it is, if you buy a flytrap make sure to drop a fly in its mouth every time it closes. Takes tons of energy to close, needs food

11 years ago | Likes 1823 Dislikes 27

Tumblr is right on time to defend Venus fly trap rights

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 14

Or... Just throw out your dead flytrap and buy a new one. It's a cheap plant.

11 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 3

Tumblr is right on time to defend Venus fly trap rights

11 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 15

Do the leaves wither and fall off after a certain number of closes or does it just take up lots of energy for the whole plant?

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

The leaf trap dies. I wish it didn't. It's the only carnivorous plant I won't get because I'm afraid I'll kill it on accident.

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Tried to explain this to my mom. Long story short: Cleopatra died :(

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Our last one died because we gave it tap water instead of rainwater. The latest one is going strong for a few months now, even without flies

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

FYI that's a zipper. The fly is the piece of cloth covering the zipper.

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

no im pretty sure the guy who makes these is also a fashion expert :)

11 years ago | Likes 56 Dislikes 4

I also read that the digestive juices they release to digest the flies will eat at the inside of the flytrap too. Not sure if that's true.

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 14

If I remember correctly it's the (re)opening of the lobes that is very energy consuming. Also, I'm very fun at parties.

11 years ago | Likes 11 Dislikes 0

IIRC, even more specifically each trap can only close a certain amount of times as well so one shouldn't go around wasting them.

11 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 2

Yup, about 3 times.

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 4

from what i understand a healthy trap can close up to 12 or more times.

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Just out of curiosity, can it eat wasps too?

11 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Get a sundew. It's more satisfying to watch the flying bastards get hugged to death. Cape sundews are really easy, just only use DI water.

11 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

It's probably just a cutting of a complete flytrap, so no harm done.

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

....Don't we all?...

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

"Charlie" is an off-cut from a larger plant. He's already dead, Jim.

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Or just water it. They can survive on water just as easily as meat. They are still plants...

It's a fuckin potted plant people. Just because it has a mouth doesn't make it bad to kill it.

11 years ago | Likes 11 Dislikes 2

You're right but... that sounded weird for some reason lol.

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

That's not quite right, it closes mechanically, not reactively.

11 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 1

I heard flytraps have a penchant for human blood

11 years ago | Likes 26 Dislikes 0

But it's a plant... An inanimate object!

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Whatever you do Seymour, don't feed the plants.

11 years ago | Likes 20 Dislikes 0

How do you put food inside a mouth that has already been closed?

11 years ago | Likes 17 Dislikes 5

be fast and get the fly in there before it closes

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I think he meant you don't want the trap to close for any reason other than to eat. The loss of energy will kill them :/

11 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

I think they're saying "Don't fool around and make it close its mouth on random, non-food things for your amusement. Give it food."

11 years ago | Likes 42 Dislikes 1

I know, just poking at shit now.

11 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 4

That's why I've come to love pitcher plants more; murder has never been more efficient

11 years ago | Likes 93 Dislikes 0

I love it when one of my sundews just snags a fly and slowly curls around it in it's deathly love hug embrace

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I had a Nepenthes pitcher plant that I fed a lizard too

11 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 2

My two pitcher plants have eaten nopes, skeeters, lizards, frogs, and a few butterflies. I love my murder plants!

11 years ago | Likes 16 Dislikes 1

Do you mean, like, feeding the corpses of your victims to a bunch of these plants?

11 years ago | Likes 28 Dislikes 0

I know me; if I started dicing my victims and distributing them among hundreds of pitcher plants, I'd quickly bore and just bury the body.

11 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

the V flytrap expends energy whether it gets its prey or not; the honeydew only if it catches its prey; the pitcher plant just sits there.

11 years ago | Likes 19 Dislikes 0

Worked in a greenhouse, poured out a pitcher plant that was weakly and dying to make room for the stronger plants. Full to the brim w death!

11 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

You... puréed a pitcher plant and poured it into its brethren, just because it was "weak"? You monster.

11 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 2

Maybe the bear was soaked in red bull, that would give him enough energy.

11 years ago | Likes 38 Dislikes 4

This comment makes me wonder if it would work to drop plantfeed in there, because that's essentially what it takes out of the insect.

11 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

I approve of winged bears.

11 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

How the hell did you soak a bear with Redbull? That's like, a lot of Redbull.

11 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

But... that would also give it wings. And I don't think we want that.

11 years ago | Likes 23 Dislikes 0

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Oh, we do. We doooooooooo.

11 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

It's so weird that Venus Flytraps are considered endangered but are sold as novelties in most museums.

11 years ago | Likes 36 Dislikes 0

not sold at museums here, just grocery stores

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

They're fairly easy to propagate but they're also easy to kill. : /

11 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

It's illegal to sell wild grown VFTs. wild ones are sometimes marked with a tag that shows up under UV.

11 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

That's smart. Use harmful radiation to confirm that it's a real endangered species

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

Hahaha I wish they used irradiated dyes. Then the plant poachers might get cancer.

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Also, plants respond to radiation a little differently than animals and other organisms.

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I don't know if you're joking but, no.

11 years ago | Likes 67 Dislikes 12

Depends, if you make them close with no food inside too often they die.

11 years ago | Likes 78 Dislikes 3

Yep. But by around 3 months they can withstand quite a bit of it (I had them when I was little and loved to showed them off).

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

That's a cutting, not a whole plant.

11 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 1

Each "mouth" only has a certain number of closes before it dies, and seeing how the whole plant has one here, forcing it like this may do it

11 years ago | Likes 27 Dislikes 4

11 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Worth it.

11 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

According to Klunatik, the owner of Charlie, this, as in many of his videos is just a small part of the mother venus flytrap he owns.

11 years ago | Likes 21 Dislikes 0

So he's basically cutting off parts and planting them again?

11 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Considering that we traditionally celebrate by cutting down a pine tree, forgive me if I'm not all that sympathetic for the flytrap.

11 years ago | Likes 639 Dislikes 12

Or just get a potted Christmas tree and then plant it somewhere... They stay prettier anyway

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Uhh I deff keep mine alive for like a month . In the wild it would've been capped on by a bear

11 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

You sir are a genious. I crown you king of comments. (In my world anyway)

11 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 5

I forgive you.

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

But unlike the Douglas fir, the Venus flytrap has a very small native range and is much more vulnerable.

11 years ago | Likes 22 Dislikes 4

Value of life: proportional to rarity?

11 years ago | Likes 21 Dislikes 4

And rarity is proportional to the scope, so the bigger the scope, the rarer, & the more valuable. As scope reaches infinity, so does value.

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

yes. albinos are a commodity.
